I’m not sure I know the answer to this. And that concerns me. A lot.

I was just musing the other day how many churches I've seen have numerical growth because of the charisma of the pastor and when he left, the growth disappeared.

I don't think it is a secret that MANY larger churches are built around the personality of the pastor. It takes a wise person (AB?) to chose the person following such a pastor.

Some pastors have no personality, some do have charisma (?) or a personality with so much love for a flock, that you seem to WANT to be part of the flock.

I don't think it is intentional in a pastor's part that his church reflects him, but it is a pity when he feels led to move on that the pastor following has such a tough job filling his shoes.

However it seems that normally the large churches with the magnetic pastor only has a problem at the pastor's retirement because he has been there at times 20-30 years. Basically it is his church.
The problem is when the Charismatic pastor puts the church in debt so far they drown at his leaving or retirement....

Post Well of course. Oh wait... doyle
After a period of years, churches can indeed begin to reflect the personality of the Pastor. BUT WAIT...

How unfair is that? You done gone and brought Jesus into the equation. That makes the question a little more difficult. Smile

I've been in churches that are known as "so and so's church". The names are instantly recognizable because of who the pastor is.
I cannot remember even one church that is instantly recognizable because they exude the character of Christ. Not saying they don't exist, but I am saying they are mighty few and far between.
Many make such claims, but reality is usually very different.
We are attracted to the personality of men, I fear, far more than we are attracted to the character of Christ.
