So, I'm considering this view of Phil. 2:12.
Phil. 2:5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, ...
12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
The law is clearly the idea of establishing my own righteousness.
Phil 3:9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
Rom. 10:3 For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
The law is clearly the place where even Moses was "full of fear and trembling".
Heb. 12:21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, “I am full of fear and trembling.”
There is no fear in His perfect love which casts out all fear (1 Jn. 4:18 ).
We haven't received the spirit of bondage again to fear (Rom. 8:15).
The law is leaven that we need to rid our lives of.
Luke 12:1 Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Gal 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. 7 You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough.
Perhaps what Paul is saying in Phil. 2:12 is that there is a persuasion we to let in us - that Jesus finished the work of redemption and is exalted to the highest place - that He is Lord.
And there is a persuasion (leaven) we need to work out of us - that Mt. Sinai persuasion along with its fear and trembling that we can establish our own salvation, our own righteousness.
Work this attitude in. Work this attitude out.
