Is to win the lottery, inherit it, break the law for it, or be very, very lucky.

Has anyone found any other way?

We often find that some of the richest families inherited that from ancestors who did some bad things (e.g., the father of JFK apparently ran rum during Prohibition).

It is NOT hard work that does it. If it were, ditch diggers would be the wealthiest people around.

It is NOT diligence. If it were, plenty of pastors would be wealthy.

When it comes to being a self-made rich person, it comes down (for the most part, I think) to...LUCK. The person who invented Beta video tapes had a superior product to VHS tapes. But his invention didn't pan out.

Bill Gates is not the only guy with great ideas. But there is something about the right idea at the right time with the right people--in other words, everything coming together in just the right way--the makes the difference.

Capitalism likes to claim that hard work will cause one to become wealthy or otherwise successful. Well, if you define successful as putting food on the table, then yes, that is correct. But if you define it as having plenty of money, no debt, or the such, then NO.

I was only thinking this because I was looking at a house (on the internet) and wondered how anyone could be wealthy enough to own such a house. I realized that even a doctor couldn't afford such a house. And that got me to thinking....

There are all sorts of lies that economic systems tell us. I have told you what capitalism says. Socialism tells us other lies. Communism tells us even darker lies. ALL of them sound wonderful. But none of the claims fully come true, it seems.

So, if you read about me robbing a bank, you'll know why. (SMILE)

It was just something I wanted to marry into.

I married an Iowa sharecroppers daughter. Missed the boat on that one. Laughing

Using your head, gambling a little and hard work CAN gain you a big bank account. I never can get it out of my mind. My BIL was a HARD WORKING electrician. We would drive past a mansion and invariably, he would say that could be mine, He started off as my helper when I worked for Bean Electric. He went out on his on evenings and weekends. finally started his own business.
I told BIL that could never be his. YOU NEED SECURITY, that regular paycheck coming in. That guy may hit a bad spot and lose everything. The electricians working for him will just go to another job. It is a gamble being in business for yourself, but mostly it pays off if the owner is wise. As a rule you will not gain 'wealth' working for the man but you can live well.

Rich is happy. My wife thinks rich is being able to eat out twice a week. I tell her I do too, maybe dinner in Hawaii. or Breakfast in Frankfurt. LOL

You will not get rich digging ditches, unless you own the Ditchwitch and sub to cable companies, etc.
Doctors learn they cannot get rich unless they Own a Clinic and have DRs working for them. (Or they are a renowned Brain surgeon maybe.)

If you are 20 and put 50 bucks in a month and each year bump it by say 10 bucks...do that for 10 years you are on your way to become a millionaire by the time you hit 60.

If your old, that track is a little too late.

I just read someone's facebook post that many people who love money work very hard for it and get wealthy. People who prioritize other things, like family, and work hard in that area reap benefits in those areas.

Jesus said you cannot serve God and mammon.

I Timothy 6:9 teaches,
"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition."

this is something I have to constantly guard my own heart about.

Truth, funny many folk do not know that. Shocked

In my daddy's north Georgia Farmer's advice: don't to try to play someone else's game. I learned that early as a young guy on a ship when someone said they could teach me to play Poker! I apologized to daddy for not listening to him. Shocked

It has to be hard work in an area that pays off really well. Ditch digging may not cut it. But there are contractors who get into the right line of the ditch digging/landscaping business who do well.

Jim Collins in 'Good to Great' talks about return on luck. The successful business leaders who got good luck were able to take advantage of that luck. Like Bill Gates getting the 'lucky break' of being asked to develop an operating system for IBM. He made sure he negotiated into the deal that he could use the software on other systems and made various other decisions that led to Microsoft being where it is today. it wasn't just the 'lucky break' he got, but what he did with it.

And he wasn't just lucky, or educated. He was in a cutting edge field where people could get a big break.

I don't think luck is a Biblical concept per se.

And I am not endorsing the desire to be rich in this present world.

You could go into business and earn normal profits, but in a high paying industry, for example, financial services, and eventually be debt free and have plenty of money. Not Bill Gates money if you earn normal profits, but way upwards of 6 figures.

You could also imitate someone else's very successful ad funnel and scale up the ad if it converts.

You could even work a multi-level system and make a lot of money building up a downline, or make wise decisions investing in real estate and buying properties that you can rent for more than the mortgage or repair and flip houses. If you do the repairs yourself, that's a lot of work. But there are people who could earn millions doing this. It's not Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos money, but still more than one person needs.

There are ways to make money without reinventing the wheel.

I am not endorsing the desire to be rich, btw.

I know couple whose Granddaughter just took a job as an attorney on Wall Street her salary equals $175 an hour. Sounds like one could be RICH in a couple years, if they did not pay 10,000 a month for rent and about the same to park a car which ends up being half their salary.
Wonder how much lunch is????

Investors are having a tough time in Manhattan half the condos built in the last 5 years are unsold, the average cost of these stands at 3.7 million.

Yep, it seems no matter how much one's salary is, some one figures a way to cut it back to a good living. Y'ain't gonna become wealthy (as a rule) on a set salary.

BTW I haven't read the definition of 'Rich' yet. We all know Bro JD is RICH one way or the other! Just sayin'. Smile

I think he owns a Harley! Shocked

Each person decides for himself what the definition of rich is.

Jesus said the rich man "fared sumptuously". In my view that is the top end of 'rich'. It is self centered. That man was not blessed with more than King David or Job or Solomon. So 'being rich' is not evil, and is not why that man ended up where he did. He was not a good steward.

Are you rich? I just googled it... investopedia...

An income of $32,400 per year would allow someone to be among the top 1% of income earners in the world. To reach the top 1% worldwide in terms of wealth—not just income but all you own—you'd have to possess $770,000 in net worth.Sep 25, 2019

I have more than my need. I am rich.

Post Proverbs 13:11 in multiple versions: Dean Steenburgh
Wealth takes place in multiple little steps ...not all at once.

New International Version
Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.

New Living Translation
Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.

English Standard Version
Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.

Berean Study Bible
Dishonest wealth will dwindle, but what is earned through hard work will be multiplied.

New American Standard Bible
Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, But the one who gathers by labor increases it.

New King James Version
Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, But he who gathers by labor will increase.

King James Bible
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

Christian Standard Bible
Wealth obtained by fraud will dwindle, but whoever earns it through labor will multiply it.

Post Yes, you can get rich! COGLayman
In order to be rich you need to do certain things. Most people are not willing to do what it takes (all legal) to be rich. Whatever most people make they spend more.

I have a friend who graduated from high school. He did not have a college degree. He started a lawn mowing business in high school. Grew up in a lower middle class area/family. Worked hard, lived frugally, saved what he could. After a number of years he began to invest in real estate. He read hundreds of books and talked to everyone he could about how to invest. By 40 he was a millionaire. Now in his 50s he is worth more than ten million, which I think most would consider rich. Many people told him he could never do what he did. No college degree, no family money, no inheritance, started with nothing. He proved them wrong.

It has been proven more than once, it can be done. However not everyone can do it. It takes an ability to stick with a plan you know will work.
