You are right. And now you have folks who have been caught using fake degrees getting all “fake religious” about how they don’t agree with accreditation. That they made a religious choice to get an unaccredited degree because of religious persecution by accreditation agencies or, they claim that they don’t believe in accreditation. I was dumb enough to ask why one pastor with a fake degree why he didn’t teach part time at a university. The response I got was A speech about how This pastor did not believe in accreditation. Thanks to you otcp I see what that speech really was. A self righteous attempt to justify the fake degree. I wouldn’t go to an unaccredited doctor. This guy got arrested for being a fake doctor.

Wonder how far a measure would make it if introduced at GA that any minister presenting spurious academic degrees could be stripped of their credentials?

Post There is a difference between a PHONY degree...and an unaccredited one. Aaron Scott
If EDUCATION and/or the RECOGNITION OF DOCTORAL-LEVEL KNOWLEDGE is the purpose of a degree, then being unaccredited is not, of itself, an indication of anything amiss. Yes, the "utility" of an unaccredited degree is less than that of an accredited degree. But the EDUCATION attested to by an unaccredited degree is not necessarily inferior to--and perhaps even superior to--that of an accredited degree.

A PHONY degree, however--a piece of paper that doesn't even concern itself with the "graduate's" level of education, THAT is one that ought to be rightly rejected by all.

And, speaking of phony, consider that there are many people with accredited degrees that received a phony or inferior education. Just look at all the Gator football players that magically maintain the appropriate GPA, even though they have never scored higher than a D- on any test since kindergarten. By the way, this is why NBF is such a fan of the Gators--he feels superior because, having averaged a C- since kindergarten, he knows he is "smarter."

In our city, there is a pastor of a prominent independent church who goes by "Dr." On the website, this person lists a MDIV from a accredited and very well know and respected seminary. However nothing is mentioned about their doctorate. Absolutely nothing.

Years ago, I attended a Church of God, where the pastor was "Dr". I innocently asked where he graduated from (just polite conversation), and got a lot of words, but no answer. I was confused at the time, now I know why. He is in a different state now, and does not refer to himself anymore as "Dr." Good for him, he was always a standup guy.

I have had discussions with other people who don't see the big deal. I remind them that they would not trust their body to a fake physician, so why trust your spiritual well being to a, well "quack". I have absolutely no respect for fake, unaccredited doctorates. Please forgive me if I sound tough, but I am a certified public accountant, and I have spent years exposing fraud. Fraud in this case is when someone is mislead by false presentation, a deception, counterfeit, fake, or just a liar. A last, but not least, special thanks to OTCP for alerting me to this kind of fraud.

This has been my sole purpose from day one of engaging this issue. There was a time in my early ministry I would not have recognized an unaccredited degree from a legitimate degree. I was naïve enough to think that of all people, surely a preacher of the Gospel of Christ, if he claimed a doctorate, would have earned it at a legitimate institution. I was wrong. And I am no longer naïve. But of all disciplines and vocations, the preacher, the man of God, should be one of integrity. Unfortunately, and sadly so, preachers seem to be the worst at perpetrating questionable credentials--especially the doctorate. If my pastor began to claim a doctorate that I knew wasn't legitimate, I would leave the church and find one where the pastor was a person of integrity. Why? If the pastor will be dishonest about his credentials, what else will he be dishonest about?
