Goodbye Mexico, hello Baton Rouge(update 8/2/17) |
Resident Skeptic |
This Thursday July 27 we will be leaving Mexico after a seven week visit and flying to Baton Rouge, LA. It has been a pleasure as always visiting with my in-laws and having numerous ministry opportunities. We ask for your prayers for traveling mercies to our next destination. The WoF heresies are making major in-roads into Mexico, so I leave here with a troubled heart.
While in the capitol city of the Bayou State, we will be attending some very important meetings of a ministerial nature. I desire your prayers concerning these meetings just as much as I desire prayer for our journey. As you might have already surmised, part of these meetings will be with personalities whose last name all of you know. I go with a contrite heart, an open mind, but also with open eyes. We want only to do God's will and he knows what is best for our family.
Thank you in advance. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI

My feelings about this trip to BR are very mixed. I really value your prayers. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI |

Exactly.
But I simply will not bow my knee to such silliness. I go as a servant, and if that is not good enough then I don't need to be there.
I have spent some time examining this "cross" teaching of theirs and I find little fault in it, per say. In fact, it is refreshing to see a major ministry focusing on the teachings of Romans 7 and 8, most of which the average Christian knows little about. BUT.......................................... I get the feeling sometimes that JSM is glorying in the fact that they are glorying in the cross instead of actually just glorying in the cross (if that makes sense).
I so want to believe that the AG reinstating Swaggart's credentials is a sign that it is OK now to endorse this ministry, but I'm going to have to check things out for myself. Frankly,my hopes are not too high at this point. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI

Most Christians I know are not attending churches where a thorough examination of Romans 7 and 8 is ever taught. In fact, I have a hard time finding Bible teaching churches period. That is not to say that the sermons preached at most churches don't have biblical basis, but there are very few teaching series on an entire epistle, for example. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI |

But it was your original remark and the context that made me curious.
What is it about Romans 7 and 8 in particular that you think is not taught or not taught correctly.
(A brief outline or summary of the salient points would be great!)
I have never done a series on the book of Romans...I think the reason is that I share Gordon Fee's opinion that this book, of all Paul's writing (if not the entire New Testament) should be approached after years of examination and faith...something done later in ministry rather than earlier.
Make no mistake I teach FROM it regularly I just have not ever taught THOUGH it.
I am currently reading/studying through it again with teaching from NT Wright and Gordon Fee respectively.

First meeting went well, with Dr Gray. I am feeling a bit more positive. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI |

I humbly ask for continued prayers for God's guidance. I'm learning more details every day about what is going on here. Some things bring me great joy and encouragement, while others raise red flags.
Yesterday I had a brief meeting with "the son". When he realized who I was he was dumbfounded, but remained polite. I hugged him and was as encouraging as I could be, but it was an awkward moment. I do not yet know where that will lead.
I spent several hours today with the AG Sectional Presbyter for this section. Very encouraging meeting.
Thanks for praying!
P.S. Some things I do not feel comfortable discussing openly on the board, but if you have questions please feel free to PM me. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI |

Brief meeting with the Elder and is wife at FWC after church. Not surprisingly, all they wanted to do was play with our girls, They both were very gracious. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI |
