Sister, I can sympathize with your feeling. I am finding out that many people have entrenched opinions. I used to naively think that if one carefully laid out a reason and scripture to back it up, a person could at least be entreated to consider a different position.
I understand that not everyone will agree with a particular interpretation after it has been considered, but I continually find people who seem to be unable to consider a different view at all.
It goes like this:
"The wall is pink."
"No the wall is actually white; it's just appears to be pink because you've been staring at a green monitor for 8 hours straight."
"I'm not looking at the monitor now. I'm looking straight at the wall and it is pink."
"There is an optical phenomenon called 'afterimage.' [Quoting from Wikipedia] 'Ewald Hering explained how the brain sees afterimages, in terms of three pairs of primary colors. This opponent process theory states that the human visual system interprets color information by processing signals from cones and rods in an antagonistic manner. The opponent color theory suggests that there are three opponent channels: red versus green, blue versus yellow, and black versus white. Responses to one color of an opponent channel are antagonistic to those to the other color. Therefore, a green image will produce a magenta afterimage. The green color fatigues the green photoreceptors, so they produce a weaker signal. Anything resulting in less green, is interpreted as its paired primary color, which is magenta.'C" [the speaker is satisfied that this should clarify what is happening and she is satisfied that the other person will NOW understand what is happening]
"The wall looks pink."
"Exactly! It looks pink, but that is just an illusion because you know it is really white."
"It's not really white. It's pink."
"Please! You've been here all day. Has anyone come in and painted the wall?"
"No."
"Has anyone come in and changed any lightbulbs to make the wall pink?"
"No."
"Did this same thing happen yesterday where the wall was white in the morning and appeared pink to you after staring at that green monitor all day?"
"Don't insult me. The wall is pink! I can see it with my own 2 eyes."

Doesn't the NT say that in Christ there is no male or female?

Be encouraged sister. 2 posts from 2 different posters against women bishops, 14 from 6 posters for, 1 neutral, and 2 OT jokes. I think things are going well. |

The A/G's have allowed both genders to hold the highest credential for almost 100 years. I called the office of George Wood & spoke with his secretary & she said she thought they were first ordained in 1920. I asked her had any woman ever been elected or appointed to high office & she said, 'no, not in almost 100 years has a woman been elected or appointed to high office in the A/G. There was a woman who served as a Presbyter (similar to our D.O.) one time but it was a one time event & the men of that section voted her in.

It finally occurred to me after spending a couple of years on Acts that this issue is the real issue with women being ordained/bishops, whatever you want to call it. The real fear, quite simply, is that women will be put into positions of power. Yes, it's OK if women preach or teach. We can give them a license. But to show them the respect they deserve for the price of the calling...I don't get the impression COG women want those positions of power. The COG female ministers that I know are passionate about their Lord and fully committed to serving Him and obeying His call whether or not their credentials show it.
If you believe scripture prohibits women from preaching or teaching, then why give them a license at all? You can't have it both ways. Having this attitude dishonors women like Margaret Gaines who has given her life to the gospel and to our denomination. _________________ "More of Him...less of me."
