Roughrider, I'm not speaking from personal experience since I can't play the dobro, but if you are musically inclined and already know how to play a stringed instrument, I would say go for it. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

1. Your never to old.

2. If your serious get a good one. the quickest way to lose interest is to get a cheapie that doesnt sound good.

3. Lots of easy learning techniques on youtube.

I'm looking at modifying an old flat top for learning purposes. There is a lift to put on the nut and I would change out the strings.

Can COG folks play the dobro? Isn't that against the practical commitments?

"He was out all night playing the dobro."

"His wife was angry because he was running around playing the dobro."

"He lost all the babies milk money playing dobro in Vegas."

"He'd rather play the dobro than hearken unto wisdom."

"This is my brother Dobro, and my other brother Dobro."

that would probably work but would have no resonator for volume. I'm not real sure that you would get the dobro sound with that though. But its a good project. You will probably have to apply lift to the bridge also.
