Post What has Tim Hill done to deserve election as PB? aprilmay2.0
This is not a negative post against him so don't read that. But the COG has a unique political system. Its one of the few systems that elect by vote but allow no official campaigning. The preachers kind of rely on prayer, colleague input, denominational input, and simple preference to make their voting decision. (not in that order)

So, this forum allows for colleague and denominational input and thats what Im asking.

1. What has Tim done with regards to finances that warrants an election?
2. Who evaluates Tim's current job performance and what are those evaluation marks?
3. How many situations has Tim provided concrete solutions for since he's been in office?
4. What are Tim's stats while in office? (salvations, baptisms, Holy Ghost baptism, sanctifications, rededication's etc)
5. How has Tim saved the COG money or managed a budget?

I think the answers to these questions (and I'm sure there are more questions since this list isn't exhaustive) would help many people make up their mind about voting.

Or God could tell preachers who to vote for, kind of like he tells them what to preach.

It's a valid question but should be asked of everyone for all positions. Acts-pert Poster

Post Deserve or Qualified? StandardAnswer
I don't think "deserve" is the right word here. Any of us are only where we are by the grace of God.
The right word is "qualified".

Initially, briefly, and from a qualification standpoint, the fact that he brings a World View
from his experience with World Mission is significant. His
previous experience on the Executive Committee in three
different offices over 8 years including Secretary General, giving
oversight to the flow of denominational finaces, provides a solid
background of working with various issues throughout North America and
globally as well. He articulates and carries out vision clearly and decisively.

This post I'm about to make has zero to do with Tim Hll.....I wouldn't know him if he walked into my church.

Having said that, the statement that sticks out to me is the fact that the electors kind of use prayer with no active campaigning amongst those being elected.

I feel about the COG the same way I feel about the US government. It needs changing, but the machine is too strong, too big to do anything about it. I know for a fact that politics within the COG is how almost all elected officials are put into office. The GOB (Good Ole Boy) network is what gets things done and puts people in place. There is a well known individual who's name I seen thrown around here for council of 18 and other admin jobs that was the State Administrative Bishop in Alabama several years ago. When our church was going through a transition and about to elect a new pastor, he told our church a bald face lie to the congregation about a pastor at another church that was not interested in becoming our pastor. Not true, because I talked to him the day before and ask him to call the AB and have his name thrown into the ring of pastors that we would like to talk to about the job. He was very humbled and said he would ask.........State AB said he wasn't interested. Rolling Eyes

This ties into another thread that was going a few weeks ago. Why aren't there more young leaders in the COG? Because they are tired of the political BS (Bologna Sandwich). What good comes from all the posturing and kissing tail. People my age (43) and younger are tired of it. Why do independent churches move into areas where there has been a COG for years and blow the doors off. Usually taking a large amount of COG members. Because if you do the same things you have always done, you're going to get the same results you have always got.

Post interesting observation clevelandgrad
aprilmay2.0,
Like myself, I have notice more pseudo-names being used to address perceived issues with this denomination. Makes me think their are folks who have a reason for reservation in asking these questions under their real name.

I personally think your questions are valid and should be answered.

I have my questions about those being promoted. Notice my choice of words - they are being promoted. These individuals are placed on the camp meeting circuit and all of the sudden they are elected to a position in Cleveland.

Personally, I want to know:
1. What have they done with regards to finances that warrants an election?
2. Who evaluates their current job performance and what are those evaluation marks?
3. How many situations have they provided concrete solutions for since they've been in office?
4. What are their stats while in office? (salvations, baptisms, Holy Ghost baptism, sanctifications, rededication's etc)
5. How have they saved the COG money or managed a budget?

Regarding Tim Hill: I understand he has raised a ton of money for world missions that's great but has world missions grown in number of missionaries? Are we in new areas since he took this office? How many new younger missionaries have entered the field under his direction?

I don't have an axe to grind, these are just legitimate questions that I feel should be answered. Remember the next GO will be in office for 4 years - that's a long time to be in power.

The following is some statistical information from World Missions that may help with some of your questions.
1. 2012 30 career missionaries had been told they were coming home due to $300,000 missionary deficit. The offering at the Assembly that year pulled them out and and they are still on the field doing ministry.
2. 48 new missionaries have been approved by the Missions Board since 2012.
3. 8,500 national workers have become pastors around the world.

Those are just a few of the highlights that have occurred under Tim Hill and his leadership in World Missions. I think it's safe to say that his track record the last four years in Missions and the eight years prior to that on the Committee will serve him well should he be elected as the next General Overseer.

Post Here's Why Tim Hill Will Be Elected FG Minister
It's his turn. Just like Hillary. The COG has only elected one GO outside the Cleveland political system in my lifetime and that was Paul Walker. The rest have been in Cleveland for some amount of time before being elected GO. Some longer than others. Will Tim, be any different than the rest? Let's wait and see.

The COG wanted a shake-up many years ago and elected Paul Walker. I remember the Assembly when he was elected. I along with many others were crying. People applauded and stood to their feet for what seemed like eternity. People were cheering and shouting. Hope had come! Finally, a pastor would lead us. The political system was rejected! I thought Walker would be different, but I can't point to anything that he did that changed or greatly helped the COG. Maybe he did, but I don't recall it. For such hope for change, the buddy system is still in power all these years later. Dr. Walker's election was an anomaly, but his success was the same as the others IMHO.
