This is correct if they are thirsty. But it holds no water ( No pun intended ), if they are users and abuse the system.
One day after service, a family pulled up drinking and smoking, asking for money. My Pastor took them to the gas station and put a little gas in their car.
Sometimes you can't tell if a person really needs help. But sorry.....when they're smoking a cigarette and drinking a coke...it's not our problem. |

So if one abuses grace and sins a lot more than the other guy, basically abusing the grace system - they don't deserve any more grace? (or water)? _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

You also need to take into account of being a good steward. If you help someone who is blatantly abusing the system, you are potentially wasting money that could be used for helping someone who truly needs it. |

THE LOVE OF GOD |
When we pastored, we were bombarded with requests for money for whatever. One lady (mentally challenged - found out later) wanted 2 KFC dinners delivered to her house for her and her grandson as they were "hongrey". We had a food pantry and gave away food weekly - usually banana box full of food. It got to the place where people were knocking on our door (we lived beside the church) wanting money. We quit answering the door unless we knew the person. I just started telling people on the phone that my husband was the pastor and a lot of weeks he didn't even get a paycheck as the church didn't have it. That helped some. Of course, it was the truth. |

The cooperative interdenominational ministry of an organization like "Love, INC" worked wonderfully in the area where I formerly pastored. For the churches that participated (which was most), it completely eliminated the problem of scam artists who constantly tried to milk every church they could. |

I agree this is the best possible scenario whenever you have that opportunity afforded to you. I have pastored in places where there was little or no cooperative effort and it makes it much more difficult. We do a food pantry and there are other churches nearby that also offer that so we have great coverage. We do help people with utilities but we set limits on that. In other words, we have set limits and times. We don't offer utility assistance more than once a year for a household. Some might view that as harsh but that's just how we do things. |
