Post Look at this hole in my sock! Cojak
A light hearted entry here. I was wondering the strangest, funny or odd thing you have seen in the pulpit?

Many years ago we attended the Mt Holly Church of God. A young minister was speaking, I cannot remember the point he was making (I was losing my hearing) but before I realized what was happening, he had sat down on the edge of the rostrum, took off his shoe to show a big hole in his sock.

I know it was not for a larger offering, he wasn't getting paid, and was a member of the church.

The young man did well, he is no longer in the COG but did marry a lady from the state office. They now pastor a solid independent church.

Do you have an odd happening in your memory? Shocked

If you read this John, what was it about that hole? Confused

This 'un does! Been there longer than most COG's in the area. We have attended and the services haven't changed since the 1950's. Also solid folk and good Christians. They fellowship back and forth with the COG's in the area.

It is more solid than the ex-COG down the street that was the 'Harvest Time COG', It is now Gone from our midst with the blessing of the COG officials, church building and all. Evidently that was one COG that wasn't solid.

By the way, "That wasn't a funny story!" Shocked Shocked Wink

What happened to Harvest Time COG?

First problem was the number of time the pastor had been married. The overseer took his license and allowed him to pastor under 'other' license for a period. Then the pastor demanded the property be signed over to the local elders. Over seer refused at first.
The pastor told the Overseer he would take the congregation and leave the COG with the property, which was in deep debt. The overseer relented, set a precedence in NC and now the Harvest time is independent.

I knew folks that attended, but the ones I knew left, returned to the COG. The ones leaving felt the pastor was leading sort of a cult I do not know that. But am very familiar with the area and lots of the folks, having lived lived and built in the area. So my point is, all COG churches, are not all 'really solid COG'. JMO!

Post Back to the subject... diakoneo
Preacher losing his dentures

Teacher mispronouncing testament to testicle Embarassed

Preacher mispronouncing resurrection to something...well I don't want to repeat Embarassed

New convert using some very salty language in his testimony...dealing with what we sometimes call dung and donkey...think about it

Someone "falling out under the power" splitting their head open, bleeding all over the place and going to the emergency room to get stitches.

That is all I can think of right now Smile

Post Cojak
I though of something I did see in N /Florida once.

We decided to go to the Big revival in N. Florida when it was going on. We could not get in of course so we went over the road a few miles to a COG. In his message you could see the pastor was not happy with the REVIVAL that was depleting his church of members. He preached for about 20 minutes, then walked over to his wife and said, "Continue for me I need to go relieve myself."
She stood up, actually did a good job filing in until he returned, she sat down and he continued to finish the sermon... I never seen the tag team match used that way. Shocked
