People! Washington made whisky, Lincoln & Reagan attended seances and FDR smoked. |
doyle |
People! There ain't no perfect people who have run for or have been elected as President!
One of the least effective Presidents in my lifetime was Jimmy Carter. He was and is a dedicated Christian. At over 90, he still teaches Sunday School to over 300 each week. I have so much respect for that and hope to be part of that class next Sunday.
Following Jimmy Carter as President, was Ronald Reagan. He seldom attended church and along with his wife, at times consulted a Medium - but he was a great President who could lead this nation. Lincoln, who guided us through the Civil War, along with his wife, at times attended seances (totally forbidden in Scripture). FDR smoked and had a mistress who was with him when he died, but he guided us through World War II.
Nobody can know what kind of President Trump will be. He has situations going on with multiple marriages, owning casinos and not being that conservative, but the dude is a leader. With both the Demos & Repub establishments working frantically against him, he continues to build his lead toward the nomination.
I believe that Cruz, Rubio, Carlson and Huckabee, are all dedicated Christians, but none of them are proving to be the leader Trump is proving to be. Right now, this nation desperately needs a strong leader.
When I board a flight I don't ask, "Is the pilot gay? Does he support abortion? Is he conservative? Has he only been married once?"
What I want to know is, can this guy fly this plane and get us to our destination?" I do wish Trump was nicer, wiser in his language and was a better example of dynamic Christian faith. But right now, I just want someone who can move this nation forward.
When World War II in Europe was going badly, one of our Generals began to win and push the enemy back. The guy had all kinds of faults including bad language and a pushy attitude. However, General Patton was a winner when we desperately needed one.
We Christians want purity in leadership but, Abraham lied, David committed adultery, Apostle Peter denied Jesus three times and Apostle Paul took a verbal slap (threatened him) at the General Overseer of his denomination. We still think they were great faith leaders.
That's my opinion. What's yours?

Yeah, so let us all go out and support a belligerent narcissist and see how that works out.

I think one of the major problems with this country, bringing us down, is the lack of the fear of the Lord, and that we are at a critical point. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Solomon asked God for a wise and discerning heart, and he became a very effective administrator and ruler.
Btw, I don't find Washington making whiskey as a black mark against him. Whiskey isn't evil. Abusing it is the problem. Freemason's claim Washington as one of them. Maybe he was, or maybe they just claim all those guys they can, but only some of them were freemasons.
I believe Trump has wisdom in the area of business. But does that translate into ruling a country well? Does business savvy, operating within the system, translate into knowledge of how to influence macroeconomic issues in the country? Trump has said that he would penalize companies that want to take jobs overseas. How exactly is he supposed to do that and still respect the rule of law? How does a president have legal authority to stop that sort of thing? Do we need a Republican Obama to use executive orders? The president doesn't control the Congress, certainly not completely. Can Trump get the Republicans in both houses to follow him?
Trump wishes we would have extracted tribute in the form of oil from a country we conquered. What would happen to the world and our relationship with other countries if, as a world leader, we began to do things like that. What if we started killing terrorist's families? What impact would that have on our legal system internally, our culture, and how would our POWs be treated after that?
I think Trump has proven some business skill, but what about interpersonal skills? What about diplomacy? What about knowledge of our nuclear triad? What about the ability to get people on his side in a democratic/republican system? What about having some good sense when it comes to certain political stances?
I don't see a case here where we have a potential leader who has great foreign policy ideas, great domestic policy ideas, and a proven track record of leadership in the government, but who is lacking in a spiritual area. I see someone who has excelled in one area, who presents a large number of red flags in another. Trump wants to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. He's not politically correct. He's a successful businessman. What else has he got to offer? _________________ Link |

Isn't there a limit Doyle? I mean how far out can someone go and you still approve of them being the leader of our country? All those examples you gave were unknown to the general electorate or relatively minor offenses. Bragging about how many chicks you bagged because your rich and powerful and stating that you've never done anything you need forgiveness from God for is not that minor of a thing and a pretty strong indication of a broken conscience that can not possibly make a good president. I'm not saying they need to be a saint, but this man actually claims that he IS a saint (in so many words), and claims all kinds of things that seem to be bending the truth if not outright lies.
Now I've supported him off and on this whole time, but the closer we get to the end of this the more buyer's remorse I'm feeling coming on and I think I want off the Trump train before its too late. |

It ain't time yet to make the decision for me. I cannot change what is going to happen, I have no following nor do I want one. I will wait until time to pull the lever (or mail my ballot) and decide: Do I want 4 more years of Obama's programs plus more dreamed up by Hillary or /Bernie.
Or do I want someone who has actually earned money in other ways than off the citizens's backs.
NO WAY do I even like the man Trump, he is nasty, arrogant, runs his mouth too much in the wrong direction, but he will be different. Hopefully better than what we have had.
When his nose is to the whetstone, he does not like to look bad, I think in his life he has made more 'good' decisions than 'bad'.
I WILL NOT CAMPAIGN AGAINST ANYONE RUNNING AGAINST HILLARY. I hope my Christian bro and sis do not try to get Hillary elected. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

If morals don't matter to us, we need to ask Bill Clinton for our forgiveness. I am appalled at evangelical Christians supporting Donald Trump with his LONG list of immoralities and his liberal track record. Non-Christians are also amazed as well. I had a conversation with one last night that can't believe any Christian would support Trump. |

Why would I ask Bill Clinton for forgiveness? What did I do to him?
A dozen women claim Bill raped or molested them without their consent..has anyone said Trump did that? Should they apologize to him?
I had a conversation with a non Christian that likes Trump.

Agreed Eddie, when the average non-believer thinks the guy is immoral, what are we telling them about ourselves? It only mattered for a Democrat? Apparently when we chide blacks for putting race above morality, we only mean it since it was a democrat. Its ok if you put personality above morality though. I'm not saying I won't end up voting for him in the general (God help us), but I'm not saying I will either. If he wins this and someone runs on a conservative-party ticket, I would feel better about voting for a conservative than a demagogue opportunist saying a bunch of things that sound very different than the rest of his history. |

Because we complained about his bad morals. Evidently, it doesn't matter anymore. |

Don't confuse leading in the polls to leading the nation. Trump is not leading the country anywhere right now. He is blustering about the magnificent things he will do at some point in the future.

'Course, I might be underestimating the power of positive confession. |
