Abraham lied, David committed adultery, Peter denied Christ & Paul threatened the General Overseer. |

We seek purity in an individual when he is running for President? We don't even have that from leaders of our faith.
Abraham lied, David (second only to Jesus in honorable mentions in Scripture), committed adultery, Peter denied Jesus three times and Paul threatened the General Overseer of his denomination, but all three were dynamic and powerful leaders in our faith.
**I had previously said Paul slapped the General Overseer but Quiet Wyatt challenged that. He was correct and I was wrong. Paul threatened the General Overseer. He did not slap him.

Where does the Bible say Paul slapped the "General Overseer" or anyone similar to that? |

The high priest ordered that Paul be slapped when he was giving his testimony. Paul called him a whitewashed wall, saying he ordered him to be slapped contrary to the law.
They asked him if he answered the high priest so.
He said he did not know that this was this high priest, for 'thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of this people.'
Paul was slapped. Nicholas, bishop of Myra, slapped Arius, and Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Christmas to this day. _________________ Link |

I think he got slapped for calling him (high priest) a "whited wall" but I don't think he slapped anyone. He apologized for calling him a name too.

Thank QW. I was wrong. It happened like this... |

I said Paul had slapped the General Overseer. Actually, he only threatened him. I've made the correction in the heading.
Acts 23:1-5
Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day." At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!"
Those who were standing near Paul said, "You dare to insult God's high priest?"
Paul replied, "Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: 'Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.'"
So, it was the High Priest that had Paul slapped, not the other way around.
I was wrong. Thanks for calling my hand on that. Blessings.

I really couldn't recall any time in Scripture where Paul slapped the 'General Overseer,' or anything similar. |
