You are right my friend, And Ed as much as I respect you my friend, tearing up a ticket and snarfing a twinkie is terrible advice.
You can try to justify killing yourself and the harming the wife who will take care of you. It is tough on the sweet, loving caregiver to try to roll and clean an over weight rear end. It certainly happens, believe me!
But to OP, Wasting money is in the eye of the spender. $1 or $2 on a lottery ticket doesn't compare to that over priced car or bike. Or a $5 coffee for that matter. JMO _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

Let me first be theological and then just be "real". From a biblical standpoint, the only argument against buying a lottery ticket stems from issues of stewardship. From a real-word observation , the people I see investing the most in this endeavor are those who likely are least able to do so. In other words, most of the people I see (on a day-to-day basis) who buy lottery tickets and scratch-off tickets, are those who appear to need to spend the money elsewhere. At the end of the day , I leave it as a Romans 14 issue : a matter of conscience. I have no problem with you buying a lottery ticket and I expect you not to judge me if I eat bacon. |

I think the issue with the lottery that for one to win, there must be loss for everyone else. That's why the stock market comparison isn't really a good comparison if you are talking about a long term investment where both the person investing and the company being invested in profit. Similarly, insurance when used to protect against catastrophic loss (which is what insurance is supposed to be) is a win-win even if you don't make a claim because you are being protected against the loss you couldn't afford by making payments you can afford.
Some are making the comparison between gambling and anything uncertain, but the moral component has to do with those who by definition MUST lose financially for someone else to win. |

Thou shalt not covet |

Heb. 13:5 (NASB) Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,”
God's word still condemns coveting, no matter how much some may wish to ignore such a clear principle of scriptural morality. |

Why would ANY "God-Fearin'" Christian spend hard earned money on a lottery ticket when there are some many Krispy Kremes in this nation? Many with the "HOT" sign on!!! |
