How far is too far on the subject of politics from the pulpit? |
FLRon |
I’m interested in knowing how some of the Pastors here deal with politics in your sermons. I know a Pastor who routinely bashes the current president as well as all Democrats in his preaching. At election time he uses his pulpit to not so subtly encourage people to vote for his choice of candidates.
What say you: how far is too far on this topic from the pulpit? _________________ “No man is greater than his prayer life”.

Speak about issues like abortion or same sex marriage, but don't get into politics. Your congregants know who is on which side. I never endorse a candidate. |

I’m with you. No sense in creating even more division in the church by hammering on politics. _________________ “No man is greater than his prayer life”.

I occasionally speak to issues like abortion, ‘gay marriage’, war, socialism, etc. I never endorse a candidate from the pulpit. In 2016 I did say from the pulpit that I felt compelled by conscience to vote for neither of the major political parties’ candidates that time around. I got some flak for that. Not sure my saying I was voting third party made any difference when all was said and done. |

WE visited the 1st Baptist Church in Tavares Florida once. It was during some election time. The sermon was totally about Demoncrats and their god forsaken candidates.
I left wondering how many of those 400 people were Democrats? Would they continue to attend and support?
I had the oddest feeling during the whole service, it wasn't a 'blessing feeling!'
In my opinion politics do not belong in the pulpit if you plan to shepherd the entire flock. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

Paul said to the Corinthians that “we preach not ourselves….but Christ”.
IMO no preacher should insert his personal opinions or political slant into a sermon. That does not bring glory to God. _________________ “No man is greater than his prayer life”.
