For those of you who may not be familiar with World Class Cities Ministries (WCCM), we are a missions organization whose mission is to train ministers, plant churches, and provide humanitarian aid around the world.

While the bulk of our ministry focuses on training ministers to equip them to plant healthy, growing churches, humanitarian aid is also important to us. We provide humanitarian aid and do community outreach among the indigent throughout the year, but we try to focus on those especially in need during the Christmas season. Below are the three Christmas projects we've selected this year.

Children Who Are Victims of 3 Tropical Storms in the Past Year
The coastal area near Calcutta, India has suffered the effects of two major tropical cyclones (hurricanes) this year (Yaas and Gulab) and is expected to get hit with Tropical Depression Jawad on Sunday. We partner with a group about two hours away on India's coast which allows local indigent children to attend school and receive a free lunch. This group is a Christian witness in an area that is largely not Christian. Our partner has identified winter clothes as the greatest need for these children—several of whom lost everything in this year's storms.

Cost: $3 per child (150 children in need)
Buys: 1 winter jacket or other winter clothing as needed per child

Widows in Northeast India
WCCM partners with a group in the Northeast that trains ministers to be effective missionaries to China. The church has a high number of widows of varying ages—some elderly and some who still have young children. Our long-term plan is to 1) Start a GED program and 2) Start a chicken and goose husbandry and fish hatchery program that will allow the widows to create an income for their family. The planning and implementation of this program is underway. In the meantime, there are five especially needy widows that we will be helping to create an income stream this month.

Cost: $88 per widow
Buys: 4 layer chickens, 2 baskets (baskets are turned upside down as mini "coops" per two chickens), 1 month of chicken feed

These widows will immediately be able to sell eggs in their communities. It is a common business for widows in India to have. They will keep the chickens, boil the eggs, and sell them at the local bus stops during morning rush hour. They will also be able to breed their chickens, which allows perpetual income. Once a chicken "ages out" of egg production, the widow can eat or sell the chicken for meat.

Pastor's Family of 6 in the Philippines
The Detuyas planted their church in 2006 when they had three children. They rented a place for worship until 2009 when they could no longer sustain the rent. They then found a lot they could rent for about 1/10th of the price, and they built their own building on the lot they were renting. In 2014, the owner of the lot chose not to renew the lease for the lot, and they lost their place of worship again.

At the same time in 2014, they met a man who owned property, and they asked him if they could purchase a portion of his property to build a church on. Since they did not have the money to purchase the lot outright, they asked if they could pay in installments as the Lord gave the finances. While they were paying for the plot in installments, the landowner allowed them to build a temporary structure near the lot that the landowner agreed to receive payments on. Here is a picture of that temporary structure, which they built with their own hands in 2015:

They could fit about 35-40 people inside the church, and as you can see, they accommodated more by extending the temporary roof and adding benches outside.

In addition to this being the church they pastored, it was also their house. The family—now with a fourth child—all slept in the altar area, which is concrete, on top of which they put blankets for comfort.

In 2019, the family was in a car accident that totaled their car. In 2020, the courts found in the favor of the Detuyas, and they were awarded damages that would allow them to purchase a car of similar likeness to the car that was lost in the accident. However, the Detuyas felt the Lord was leading them to use the settlement money to finally finish paying for the lot they had been paying installments on, so that's what they did. (They now only have a motorbike for transportation.)

At the beginning of 2021, Pastor Eli and Dalia felt that the Lord was leading them to begin work on a permanent church building to be built on the lot they had purchased with their car accident settlement, so they began taking pledges from the congregation to build the new building. They have built this church with their own hands and the hands of the congregation. This new building can accommodate 80-100 people inside. Here are some pictures:

You will notice that the roof over the altar is much taller than the roof over the seating area of the sanctuary. This is because the Detuyas have been asking God to help them make the altar area a two-story area with the upstairs being a living space for the family so that they can stop sleeping and living in the altar area and move into their own living space. Additionally, they will be adding a two-story 10x28 foot section to the back of the church as additional living area.

Each financial blessing that they receive helps—especially Dalia—to feel that they will be able to one day provide a private living space for the kids outside of the church sanctuary, and that is a big deal to Eli and Dalia! Sis. Dalia, in particular, is so excited to see God working to provide this special treat for her family after the six of them have spent the past 5 years living in the church building, sleeping on its altar.

Cost: $1,420
Buys: The remaining materials to complete the "parsonage" (exclusive of $10/day for a skilled laborer to complete the sections that require it).

Thanks for the heads up. We did a small donation for Eli & family. Will keep this in mind after some health issues and Christmas are behind.

What a blessing, Cojak; thanks so much! Your "small" donation will make a BIG difference in this family's lives. There's so much I didn't mention about this great family due to trying to be concise in my post. Of particular note, the entire family is involved in doing ministry for the church, and about a year ago they even planted a second church about an hour away, which four of them travel to on a single motorbike each week! Shocked I'm so thrilled they are that much closer to having a personal space to be able to call their own. Thank you again.

I pray the health issues you mentioned aren't serious and that you guys have a merry Christmas.
