Did mama's prayers protect my brothers?

I remember the end of WWII, I was in the first grade and daddy pastored the Burlington, NC COG.
Our front porch window proudly held a small flag with two stars on it, representing this home has two members off in the war. I have heard my mama's prayers into the night pleading that divine protection would bring her sons home. She named her brothers, cousins, uncles, sons, church members and ALL the boys at the front.

BUT what I FOREVER remember is my brother's names. They came home safe. There were nights she prayed all night and somehow she and my brother, Jr., would be able to pin point, 'Guadalcanal' and other major battles he was in.

Of course my dad prayed too, but as a kid I knew he was the pastor, he was supposed to pray Smile

. Some people laugh at the old songs such as, "If I could just hear my mother pray again." The ones that make fun never heard their mother pray for a son facing the 'Jap meanace'. Embarassed

There were many mother's that prayed and their sons did not return, but I liked to believe mama brought my brothers home.

I think of this every Memorial day, without my mama's prayers would my brothers have made it home safe?

Mama, Born in 1905 passed away in 1981. I am an old man now, older than she lived to be. She not only could pray for hours, but could pray a sweet short one also. And yes, I would love to hear her pray again. Cool

My husband was just mentioning in Sunday school yesterday how his mother prayed LOUDLY every night in family devotions.
He feels the same way you do about the song, "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again."
I don't know the exact answer to your original question, but I know prayers avail much.

I know someone that was in the Vietnam War. I think his mom was a pastor's wife, but I'm not sure about that. One day his mom was especially burdened to pray for him, but it was in the morning. I think it was in a women's prayer group that she felt the burden to pray. She continued to pray until the burden lifted.

After he was home safely, she questioned him about that day and found that most of his group was killed in an attack on that day, at the very time she was praying (noting the time difference here and there.) I have no doubts (nor did he) that Mama's prayers, empowered by the Holy Spirit, protected him that day.

Oh the value of a Mother's prayer. My brother was in Viet Nam war. One night I awoke from a startling dream that my brother came to my door in uniform and ask for me by name and said, your brother has been brain washed. I felt like he had been captured and tortured. My husband and I began to pray immediately. I remember I was crying - knowing he was not ready to meet the Lord. A few years later when I saw him I asked him about it. I don't know if it was the same day or not but he said, one night his camp was out in the fields and all of a sudden they were surrounded by the enemy - completely circuled by them. He said all of a sudden the enemy disappeared - not one in sight. I believe God let them see something that sent them running. My brother came to know the Lord a few years back and he knows God has his hand on him even though he wasn't serving him.
My father-in-law was raised in the Pentecostal home with a praying Mom and Dad. He could tell you many times when he knows that God intervened and spared his life. He was in World War II, Korean War, and Viet Nam. They made him retire at 30 years and then he worked for the Red Cross in Korea. He came to know the Lord and is a great witness for God today. He told me he knows it was the prayers of his Mom.
God is faithful.
