Post No way to help with Christmas olosos
How do you handle...or where do you go to get help for someone at Christmas time?

I pastor a small church...which I'm sure you know means limited funds available. We have a couple who is needing help with Christmas for their child....who is a 13 yr old. They both work...have their own home...older son in college... Pay tithes...attend church...live right.

Even with both working they don't have much left after bills.

I need help finding some help for them. All of the local charities either are at their limits, or the parents don't qualify because of income....or because the child is 13....(can get help if he was 12).

So my question to you is....where can I get help for this couple?

Why wouldn't someone at your church see the need and meet it?

Can you receive an offering without letting folks know who it's for?

We do a program called Stars for Children. We are a bigger church (300-350) but we still have a large number of families in need. Each star has an age and a gender, and an idea about what the child would like, and folks who are more well off take the stars and make it happen. The church then gets the wrapped gifts to the families in need and no one ever learns who they are.

Post Make your request known... Aaron Scott
If you can come up with some idea of what to do for them that would be fitting and wise, why not do so, then tell us so that we can contribute?

Some dear friends on this site have been so generous and kind as to send checks to our church as a way of joining in faith with what God was doing. How I love them!

Why not come up with what you think would work...and then let us know how we can support it?

God bless.

Where my wife works, instead of the employees giving gifts to the bosses or to each other, they pick out a couple of needy families that also work there and give to them. It's usually money for their Christmas. Acts-pert Poster

That would be great if it would happen....but this is a small church that is blessed when if we have 20 on Sunday morning....part that is the family in need. My wife and I have 3 children of our own...we will do what we can but not sure what we can do...

Some one asked about what a 13 year old would want...when they came to me last week I asked....

The mom gave me a list of what he gave her...and this is the order they were listed on his list...lol:

Penan swirls
Cheese puffs
Money
Gift cards
Apple headphones
Clothes - I'll have to check on size although I know he is on the smaller size.
Xbox One video games

I Thought it was funny/cute that he had pecan swirls and cheese puffs when he a little skinny fellow.

If five people gave five bucks, you could get him a gift card. If ten people gave five bucks, you could get him a real nice gift card and too many bags of cheese puffs to carry.

I think we have the tendency to look at our own meager capabilities and think that any gift we give would not be enough. The truth is that anything is better than nothing. I wouldn't worry if your congregation can't do a lot. Just do something and trust God to give the increase.
