Post The Pope and Sister DAvis Cojak
And y'all glad he is home!

Pope Francis met privately with Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, and encouraged her to "stay strong," according to a press release from Liberty Counsel, which is representing Davis.

The meeting occurred during the pontiff's visit to Washington, D.C. on September 24, and took place at the Vatican Embassy.

"Thank you for your courage. Stay strong," Francis told Davis, as he held out his hands and asked her to pray for him. Davis held his hands and said, "I will. Please pray for me." The two then embraced.

I am amazed some reporter didn't bring this up whilst he was here. Shocked

I cannot follow all of that except the 'Holy See' does not confirm nor deny the meeting. Now I am wondering if the Pope asked her to keep it between them?
I may be missing something, my internet connection fails in the middle of most reads. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

That was basically it in a nutshell--neither confirming nor denying. It sounds like it was just a private meeting.
The comments are hilarious. Some people are mad because they thought the Pope had been so gay affirming, some people are mad because they thought he was being sneaky when he shouldn't have done it at all, and some people are mad that he wasn't vocal in his support of her.

Here is a nugget from the article you might have missed if you only were able to read part of it:

ABC News' Terry Moran asked Francis Sunday night if he supports individuals, including government officials, who claim religious liberty as a reason to disobey the law.

Francis responded, "I can't have in mind all the cases that can exist about conscientious objection, but, yes, I can say that conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right. It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right."

When asked if that includes government officials, Francis said, "It is a human right and if a government official is a human person, he has that right. It is a human right."

For some reason I think they thought it would not be published, just Ms DAvis thrilled to have secretly had an audience with the Pope. He should know us Americans cannot keep a secret (except maybe the birth place of the present occupant of the WH, LOL)

I think they progressed from "neither confirm nor deny" to "not deny." Of course, the headline on the New York Times said it had been "confirmed," but the text of the article simply stated that the Vatican would not deny it.
Of course, Kim Davis never struck me as someone who would make up a story about meeting the pope if it hadn't actually happened.

I do not doubt it happened. But I think the Pope thought it would be just their little secret. If not the press would have known about it when it happened. Wink

The pope gave Kim Davis and her husband each a rosary.

She said she would give them to her parents who are Catholic. I didn't know her parents were Catholic or how long they've been Catholic, but that gives the story a little different angle.

It definitely does add a new angle, I betcha one thing, mama and daddy will be in 7th heaven (on earth mentally) to have a Rosary that the Pope has held or blessed. Cool
