I've seen it happen. When a coucil member refused to resign, he was voted off. You have to go along to get along, simple as that. Acts-dicted

Post It Is Time To Hold Councilmen Accountable Alan Wagoner
We elected men who gave a $50,000 car to the AB while at the same time they were borrowing money to make payroll. They should not be reelected. Friendly Face

Clyde - is that actually true? I thought these guys were the current members. if so, they couldn't have all been on the council when the apparent shananigans took place, right?

I think this is border line blasphemous. If the churches would pay TOT and not lie to begin with, FL wouldn't be in this mess. Judge not lest you be judged.

Post They Are The Ones Who Gave The $50k Car Clyde Walker
Several on this council have been on and off for years. One of them was personally complicit in the infamous Ponzi scheme. All of them bear the responsibility of the insurance fiasco, the great car giveaway and borrowing $150,000 while spending lavishly.

It is time for new blood on the council that will represent the interest of the Church of God of Florida rather than the whims of the AB.

Clyde,
Again I am not sure I agree with your timeline. Those complicit should be turned out to flip burgers somewhere - but if they are not responsible - we need to NOT indict them - or accuse them falsely.

I'm not sure but I think Florida has been giving the vehicle to the outgoing ab/state overseer for YEARS. this is not a new practice. I think it's been happening since the 90's. don't know why its a big deal now Acts Enthusiast

Post It Is A Big Deal When You Are Broke Clyde Walker
Anyone with any business sense or even a little common sense knows that you don't keep living the lifestyle of the rich and famous when the money is so low you have to borrow to pay bills.

This is a ridiculous argument that you should keep on giving $50k cars just because you have done always done it whether you have the money or not.

Let's see, we dont have money to plant churches, no money to keep the office open 5 days a week, no money to keep all the staff we need, but we do have enough to give the outgoing AB a new Tahoe.

Anyone with that kind of juvinile thinking should not be on the council.

By the way, isn't there a rule that a state overseer can only take a certain amount in personal gifts from the state funds?

First of all - it would be very sad if there needed to be a rule like this...

Post Not Sure If That Rule Still Exists Clyde Walker
At one time there was that rule and it was to protect the interest of the members who gave their tithes in the local church with the belief it would be used to further the Kingdom of God.

Political liberals love to take money that doesn't belong to them and give it away. It doesn't cost them one cent to play santa claus.

There is no rule nor has there ever been that would prohibit individuals to give as much as they want to the overseer.

Why should any state overseer be given a car just for serving in an honored position in the COG for 4 or 8 years? Also, if every state gave a car to the outgoing overseer he could open his own car lot after a few terms in different states. How stupid it that practice? Why should faithful church members pay their tithes so the money can be wasted on someone who can afford to buy and drive any car he wants to buy?

How much better it would be to provide a better car for a struggling pastor somewhere in the state. I don't think God is pleased when money that has been provided by hard working members is wasted on lavish gifts to any overseer.

Post In this case... not4nothin
...it is a fact that the JMT bought the car in question (Tahoe), trading in the previously purchased car, and THEN the FL State Council was approached to approve the transaction after it was already finalized in the state's name.

This appears to have been common practice for the previous administration, leaving the state council without adequate information or ability to impact the decisions that were being made, including many loans to cover expenses.

Isn't it important to know all sides of the story before throwing these guys under the bus?

Post The Minutes Limit The Amount They Can Give The AB Clyde Walker
The following is a quote from the 2002 Minutes. It is possible that amount has been raised since then.

Quote:
The State Council is authorized to approve other gifts to the state
overseer of up to $5,000 annually, directly from the state treasury.

Notice the words, "up to". That means not more than $5,000 a year or $20,000 over 4 years from the state funds other than his salary and benefits.

If the Florida Council gave JMT a $50,000 car they violated the Minutes by giving it and he violated the Minutes by accepting it.

Post Stephens will succeed with some help GuideOne
The new Overseer of Florida will succeed if he listens to the right people.

There is good leadership in Florida. It is going to be necessary to move from the same old way things have been done to a new fresh approach. Florida pastors are frustrated with Insurance control, no access to State leadership, Overseer never being in town.

The only time the previous Overseer was in town was to hold a state meeting. After the meeting was over there was a quick ride to the airport.
