We go back to the early 70s when I was a camper at Georgia youth camp and he was a counselor with the kids from Savannah. My group of friends were extremely mischievous and all the counselors didn’t like us except for Doyle. He thought our antics were funny and would even give us ideas of crazy things to do. So, I liked him. When I got to Lee, Doyle was there and even though he was about 8 years older than me, we enjoyed some good times on campus. Again, he liked our crazy stunts and thought we were funny. So, I liked him. Through the years we would see each other at meetings and in my early years of photography, he allowed me to take pictures at his church in New York. He was very supportive in helping me in my profession. So, I liked him. Moving forward to this site. Acts was my first social media outlet. I still have many friends that I met here. Doyle loved controversy and sticking it to the man when the man was crooked. It was all about justice for those who had no voice. He loved providing that. So, I liked him. For several years, he trusted me to be an administrator here as DHDRabbi and many times, I was too harsh but Doyle always had my back. So, I liked him. There came a time when it was time for me to leave here and move on because my viewpoints and thoughts were not lining up with the majority and it was just time to go but Doyle would send me emails checking in on me. No hard feelings. So, I liked him.
To Doyle’s family….my prayers for comfort and peace are with you. Doyle was a great man. |

God broke the mold when he made Doyle Daugherty. Courageous. Articulate. Loved the Lord. Loved his church.
I can echo a number of the sentiments in this thread about Doyle. Truly, Doyle revolutionized COG culture and our collective leadership practices.
Thank God for Doyle, a good brother in Jesus...praying for the Daugherty family. |

In any case, Doyle, wow, what you created changed the Church of God. It made us bolder, I think, about questioning everything from theological positions, church ideas, leadership direction, and the denominational party line.

| I have not been on Actscelerate in a long time but when I hear of Doyle's passing I had to come back just to say a word or two. I never met Doyle personally, but we spoke on the phone several times and many, many times via email dating back to the 90s. He was always kind, gracious and offered support when I went through challenges with the COG in the 90's and again a few years ago when I made the decision to walk away from the denomination I'd spent 60 years in. As we all know, Doyle paid a heavy price for speaking out but continued to be a man of integrity through it all. When we discussed situations where he could have "taken men down" and even gone to court and won big money, he refused to take that path. I'm not saying he was always right, but I grew to respect him tremendously. |

I'm not sure if you're asking this technically or philosophically since Doyle was such a driving force behind the activity on the board. In case you are asking about the technicalities, I will be honest that I had not spent much time thinking about how the board would proceed in his absence. While Doyle was always respected as the highest authority of the board (the "CEO" of the board) since he is the one who launched it on the EZ Board platform and was the owner there between 1999 and 2005, I have always been the registered owner of the actscelerate.com domain. Specifically looking at the technicalities of whether the board can continue, the answer is "yes."

I hope so, too. About ten years ago, the company for which I worked offered Doyle a job in DC as a Realty Specialist for the US Dept. of Agriculture/Farm Services Agency. He moved in with my family when starting the job, and we worked together for four months as I was part of the team that got that project up and running. We lived together for a bit, spent a lot of time commuting an hour or so each way to work together, and we would sometimes have lunch together. We talked about Acts-celerate often. He certainly loved this board and the people on it. He was always thinking of ways that the board could be improved and the community of the board could benefit from new ideas he had. He loved serving the community, and it showed. And I don't think he would have worked as hard as he did for 23 years without having an idea of how much the people on this board cared about and appreciated him. I'd like to think he knew.

I wondered about this from a financial end. It seems from what little I know that ACTS was funded out of Doyle's pocket. I am glad to know it will continue, and if it becomes a financial issue, I hope Shaun will let us know.

| The ole timer first hear-ed bout Doyle in 1997 when I got one a his papers in the mail. Then, in 1999, me an momma hear-ed bout this place called Actscelerate, what was posed to be the happenin place to be. So, after we got home one night from Shoneys, the ole timer found the site and commenced postin. Yep, many a Sunday night after service was spent with the folk here on Acts. Them was the days fer shore. A big ole thanks to Doyle's legacy in makin Acts available to the little folk like OTCP. |

As a Moderator on Acts I think the time has come to cash in the chips. Doyle was the founder of this board and a strong contributor.
If it continues I suppose I will drop in occasionally.
I will certainly miss my friend Doyle. Sure wish I had Linda's phone number so I could share my personally thoughts.

Doyle has always been kind and generous to me.
I am very sad to hear he has passed.
His work allowed me to meet and be blessed by some of the best people in the world. For that, I will always remember him fondly - and plan to thank him personally one day.
