Post Dance in Worship Darrell Garrett
A young lady in my church asked a question about using dance in worship, and I wrote an article about it on my blog today. Before you start attacking the concept of dance in worship, I challenge you to read my blog. Then let the debate begin! Hon. Dr. in Acts-celeratology

Post Not particularly crazy about the "dance"... Phil Hoover
But I also realize that it is very "cultural" for me.

Pastor Gary's congregation uses it often...from what I'm told.

And so do many other places.

Great blog, by the way.

Great post on your blog, Dawg! Although I'm not that old, I was always taught that if you danced in church, it better be in the Spirit (IE: shouting, unrehearsed, etc.). It has taken me several years to see that this is not necessarily the case. I have seen some of the most beautiful worship in the form of dance. While watching America's Junior Miss last year, there was a young lady who danced to Via Dolorsa and it was awesome. It was the most beautiful, gracious thing I've almost ever seen. I believe that there is a place in today's church for the art of dancing to glorify God. We don't have it in our church...yet! We are praying that God will raise up someone who can oversee this ministry and see it used to glorify His name! Very Happy Acts-celerater

I think what we're against so much is the idea that it's not "our tradition." Maybe sometimes we need to step out of our tradition, but alas and alack, it dies hard.

But I will say this, at one church when the pastor told them to dance in the Spirit, four people in the alter began to square dance... no joke!

I'm pretty reserved about worship...that's just my personality. I've have danced on occassion...but it had to have been the Holy Ghost. I'm not opposed to dancing for worship...David danced with all his might before the Lord. So...I'd say...go ahead. If you do it with the right heart...I believe God will be glorified!

Post Re: Dance in Worship Joe Nail
i like and enjoy dance in services. like you stated in your blog in most services when it is done with pure motives-it takes you to a level of worship far above normal services. we had a Messianic Jewish congregation visit us and share in their worship style. man!!! what a service dance and banners and the whole nine yards. one of the best services i have ever attended. Very Happy

Post Re: Dance in Worship good2go
Without a doubt dance is a wonderful form of worship!! Dance is a great way to be more intimate with God , or reach a new level with Him when done in sincerity, with a true heart.
Dance takes place in our Church during every service. Even the older more 'traditional' people get up and dance. I've heard people say so many times, "You'll know it's God when you see me dancing!" People don't need to feel God to dance. Question: Do you need to feel God to clap during a worship song? Although agreed, you shouldn't do it unless you really want to worship God in that manner. Done for any other reason is very obvious to a Spirit-filled person, and appears just plain silly.

Great blog!

Post Re: Dance in Worship NPS39
Scripture admonishes us to praise Him with the dance, why should it be questionable? We don't have to hear a word from God to lift our hands or clap them, nor do we need special permission to say Praise the Lord or Amen...Dance in worship can be one of the most awesome expressions of praise if done to the glory of God.

I'm certain that people are moved upon at times by the Holy Spirit and that their bodies respond in a type of dance, jerking, jolting, whatever, but there is certainly nothing wrong with dancing before the Lord, even in a planned manner!

Post Re: Dance in Worship Steelerfan1
I think that dance used as a form of worship is beautiful and can be very worshipful to the Lord. It is scriptural. After all, David danced before the Lord and the was before the day of Pentecost. So, rock on!!

Post Don't chew me out yet ... fixn2bl8
First of all, I'm not saying that I'm opposed to the dance. I've been in services that had a beautiful program with it. My question is this? Who started this? Why has it taken so long for us (COG) to recognize it's importance?

OK, I'm ready ............. I think ......... Smile

Christian Hula is used by many churches in Hawaii, taking back a form of praise the devil stole and corrupted. It is not the moves you see on TV shows about Hawaii... it is basic hula elements, a bit of sign language with a worship overlay. You have to see it, because it is hard to describe.

Dancers from my church (my wife and daughter perform with this group) have danced on program at the last two General Assemblies and were received well. (Standing O!) Some who had only seen sensual, inappropriate dance in church came and told me our ladies had changed their minds, and now they saw how dance glorified God.
