Bottom line, some folks(not all) in the church don't see it as 'profitable'...
just my opinion here....

I bet this Youth Pastor is about worn slap out trying to work with these kids....probably had most of the load on him as I've witnessed with my own eyes, when someone has a burden for those that others do not consider 'desirable', they wind up toting the bulk of the ministry to them.
(we need to pray for him)

Will be a real shame when those in the church , who could have helped realize the opportunity for soul winning that they shoved aside....
and they Will realize it....one day... Crying or Very sad

that is a major reason a lot of churches do not have bus ministries. not enough income comes in with it to support it. it is a major expense instead of a cash cow. doesn't sound like the problem with the church in the opening thread...

Go read all of Acts chapter 10 - Acts 11:18...
This isn't about being "Holier than thou" but its about reaching everyone for Jesus Christ regardless of where they are from or what they look like.

I am only saying - prepare yourself and your church first.

If the stupid sheep don't ever get to where they are prepared to accept different sheep, then whose fault is it? The sheep or the shepherd. Quit blaming others for their lack of vision for the harvest.

If you are the leader - lead.

Post Throw straight up!!! wannabebishop
Nature boy,
It is because of people like you that I respond to such threads as this. You make me want to "Throw Straight Up!" I will be praying for you and along with anyone else who agrees with your opinion.
Common sense tells you that if your board approves a skate-park and it sits right in front of your youth center students then from all over are going to come to it reagardless of status quo. Don't you think this youth pastor had this in mind when he approached the board for funds? If the board, who are the elders of the church, can't discern the purpose of the project to begin with after the vision has been cast before them then maybe you need some new board members that can be "Totally Prepared!"

No, I had too many friends quit the ministry because the board would never get behing them. <sniff> <sniff> No one was a real Christian like them Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad People are too mean. WAAAHHH!

However, a great class in MIP should be:
"Leadership: How to get the church on your side".
instead of
"COG Preacher 101: How to blame everyone but yourself for your own failures"

Post Wow church of GAAWWD
I don't think that the bible said to go out and prepare your current congregation for the lost and prepare the lost for your current congregation. What is hard to handle is that there is some wisdom in getting your church behind you 100%, but sometimes you don't have time to court every board member into seeing your vision. Just like Jesus ate dinner with tax collectors and "sinners" and the pharisees sat back and discussed that what He was doing was wrong, I think that if we continue to look at church as a place for our current congregations, we will sadly miss the point of what being a christian is all about. Just because our bread and butter seems to come from our congregations does not mean that we have to ask their permission to reach lost people. I think that where we mess up is when we begin to classify lost people. Shouldn't our churches be ready to accept ALL lost souls regardless of what they look like. Yeah, Teen Challenge is better equipped to handle a drug addict, but we might want to think about that person in another way, seen as how the Bible says that we are new creations in Christ. Post White on Rice Cowboy
You better think twice about this. Nature Boy from Florida is not wrong. While I fully understand that we must take almost everyone who comes through or doors, it is not always easy. Nature Boy made a simple statement of fact and most of you are on him like "White on Rice" to only demonstrate the actions that you are vividly oppose.

Sounds to me like ole Nature Boy is a pastor with many years of experience. In other words, stop for a moment, look at the situation, and listen! There is probably more to this story than we know right now!

There have been times in the past that this ole Texas Cowboy was thrilled when some of my men escorted some scallywags out the door. Let's face it. There are antagonist who come to church for the sole purpose to disturb. This may not be the picture here, but it may be. We just don't know. But before you criticize this church, please learn the facts.

Sad That's sad. I believe in reaching out to everyone and inviting them to God's House, He is there only hope. I know that certain conduct is also appropriate in church. I'm not sure exactly what should have been done and I don't know the whole story either. It does seem sad to fire someone just because they were inviting "sinners" to the church. Newbie

Post thats sad bigmansam
Man, it just goes to show you that old church people can't take change. we tried to do something different in my church (I didn't wear a tie b/c I was running late and forgot to put one on) but anyway my counsel called me everything but a child of God, and the wives of these men brought my wife to tears. all b/c I forgot my tie.

I think the church of God needs to grow up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post Food For Throught................ onetruegod
Change is the only thing that ever stays the same!

Change is going to happen. It's up to us whether or not we want to shift when the change comes. Cause whether we shift or not, God will still shift. And we can choose to go with him or stay right exactly where we are and be in the same exact place ten years down the road.

We live in a different time these days. It's called the end times. Things and people are so much different than that of yesteryear. Churches have to adjust to this. Church isn't the building. Church is comprised of the people.

We are to love the unlovable, reach the unreachable, touch the untouchable. Not under the conditions placed on them by men. There is therefore now NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. When these untouchables darken the doors of our church buildings we are to love them and teach them, not condemn them. This youth pastor did his job and did it well. He got them to COME! Why couldn't the body of Christ do their job once the untouchables got there? Why couldn't they love them, teach them, train them, encourage them, etc.... We take such stock in our precious buildings and our status within the communities, and I am sad to say that it's at the expense of those who don't measure up by our standards.

I understand there are times when people should be showed the doors and asked to leave. I don't that is the case here. It is never a mistake for a lost soul to come to church. We should jump all over that opportunity instead of standing there in judgment.

IMHO - the church wasn't prepared. This isn't the fault of a youth pastor. It is the body of Christ that wouldn't accept these kids who were so different. When will we quit singing our own praises and realize that God has so much more for us to do? When will the scales fall from our eyes?

Usually these are the youth that are less of a threat to anyone than the PK's and church kids we have!! We removed 2 youth from leadership last week for smoking weed & getting caught on camera stealing, just to name a couple things. They have been in church their WHOLE LIFE. They are the ones that dress preppy, have perfect hair, nice cars and look like they have it all together. Yet, we have much less problems with the brand new youth coming in who've never been raised in church.

It fills us with JOY when the 'outcasts' come to youth/church because it tells us they feel welcome to come. They may look scary or stand-offish from the outside, but usually these are the sweetest, most loyal teens we have. They are just going thru some sort of identity crisis like every other teen in the world and black clothes, dirty jeans, tattoos or piercings is how they are choosing to express themselves in this given moment. Give them a chance - the outer appearance means nothing. It's the heart. We are learning that our 'churchy' youth are the ones that are the most messed up, so judging by outward appearance means nothing.

I agree with you. Those young people need to be taken under our wings and loved. Some of the churchy kids in our church have been involved in stealing and a sex ring. Yet some try to excuse it away. How are we going to win the street kids with this kind of action going on among our own.
