Post Halloween..... So your opinion Cojak
Growing up I cannot remember a big deal made of the time. I made a costume and had a great time. I never gave a thought as a kid of it having anything to do with religious beliefs.

At present still have no qualms about kids dressing up and trick or treating. But that is me.

NOW I do have a BIG problem during a time that money is tight and inflation hurting everyone of Christians spending TOO much money on extreme yard decor, etc.

Opinions?

In matters like these (Halloween), if it’s a simple matter of going out and collecting candy, I don’t see the problem. I see the connection between trick or treat and devil worship as a stretch, to put it mildly. Ringing a doorbell dressed up as Spiderman and saying “trick or treat” is a far cry from satanic worship. In my opinion there are a lot more serious issues in the church that need addressed before tackling the ‘unholy’ practice of begging for candy. Of course, there is no shortage of church folks who think there is a devil behind every door.

I've heard all of kinds of rants from believers about "opening doors for satan" and how its a win for the devil, when Christians celebrate Halloween.

I don't get that line of thinking at all.

I grew up dressing up and trick or treating, dressing up, the whole bit. And somehow, didn't grow up to be a cult member, devil worshipper, etc.

It wasn't until I became a pastor, that I encountered people who wanted the church ignore Halloween.

In my opinion, that's just not realistic. Pretending like Halloween isn't going on doesn't really accomplish anything.

People want to do something, so we try to provide an activity that is safe and fun.

Nothing wrong with that.

Post My thoughts... 4thgeneration
I remember as a kid/teen that we would have Halloween events in church that included haunted houses. At this point I think that was too much… especially in the church facilities.

I deal with people today that act like doing anything at all anywhere around Halloween exposes you to demonic possession, and honors pagan beliefs. I also think that is too much.

We had a Fall Family Festival last night (Oct 31). It offered people in our community a safe place to bring their family. Our church is in a tough community, so this is an important outreach for us. So we took 500 invitation cards to the elementary school in our community to be given to every student. We had over 700 in attendance. We don’t do witches, demons, skeletons and etc, but we also don’t run families away if their children are dressed in those kinds of costumes. Instead we love them, feed them, let them play games and get candy, and have a good evening. We also give each of them a card with information about our church and about our children’s ministries.
