This post and subject is odd. We were back in NC, ten miles from Dallas, and never heard a peep about Dallas nor Bro. DAnny. Amazing that the rumor mill wasn't spinning at high speed. Says a lot FOR Bro. Shortridge.
Gaston County was a Haven for the COG, we have a large number of churches there (about 16 I can name off the top of my head) , but now most of them run less than 30 in worship.
Funny that statement, # in Worship, Our churches were ALWAYS noted by the great number in Sunday School.... _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I just spent some time on the Dallas COG Facebook page. Pastor Shortridge was honored in May for Pastor Appreciation Day. Shortly after that, you see where there are guest ministers frequently. There are comments requesting prayer for Pastor Shortridge. These are all comments not announcements from the church, so there's no way to verify them. Someone commented he was having health problems and not always able to attend the services. Someone said Matt Gunter (who is identified in an announcement as the WNC Evangelism Director) had been asked by the pastor to step in for 6 months while he was recovering. (Though likely that would not have been his decision to make.) Then in September it announces Pastor Shortridge's retirement.
I don't know what happened but it sounds like it has been going on for a while now and they certainly need our prayers. _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

This has to be a very difficult time for this church, especially after so many years of stability. _________________ “Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why? Because none of those things makes someone a Christian.”

I was told today that Sister Shortridge is still playing the piano at the church so I assume they are still attending the church . The Evangelism Director of E NC is still filling the pulpit. It is common knowledge that it was the Grandson that 'borrowed' money from church funds. When Danny learned it he tried to start replacing the money. So now you know.
That is the normal reaction of a grandpa and someone who loves their church and does not want a scandal. BUT in today's world it is hard to sweep something under the rug, especially when it involves a church. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

Just one more reason why family members should not have access to church funds, and it speaks to the (often) unwise decision to place family members in key positions because it gives the appearance of being a “family run church”. If theft takes place the pastor is going to be held accountable, which he should be, and the church is going to be compromised.
Every church should have a budget line item for an annual financial audit or at a minimum a review of finances by an outside firm. _________________ “Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized.
