Have we allowed the job of being a pastor to go from exploring the Word and endeavoring to disciple people to have a deeper walk with God to exploration and application of marketing techniques to fill our seats?

Is that a bad thing?

Is there a balance?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

We have made humanity the focus of the gospel instead of the offended Deity we need to be reconciled to. We preach a God who "cares about you, wants to be involved with you, blah blah." All that is true, but it should not be the focal point of the gospel.

Of course, the Church of God has always been replete with great preachers, but many couldn't build a church or deal effectively with people or finances.

I told my folks Sunday night, the Church has shifted focus from the identity of Jesus to behavior modification.

Make my "fill in the blank" do better.

Christian counseling has replaced bold proclamation.

We live in a sin cursed world.

Bad things are going to happen, even to "good" people.

Only the return of Jesus will change that.
