Virginia pastor who bragged about packed church services dies one week after contracting COVID (L) |

Quote: | In his last known in-person service on March 22, Bishop Gerald O. Glenn got his congregation at Richmond’s New Deliverance Evangelistic Church to stand to prove how many were there despite warnings against gatherings of more than 10 people.
“I firmly believe that God is larger than this dreaded virus. You can quote me on that,†he said, repeating it a second time to claps, saying that “people are healed†in his church.
Happily announcing he was being “controversial†by being “in violation†of safety protocols — with “way more than 10 people†at the church — he vowed to keep his church open “unless I’m in jail or the hospital.†|
The quote from his daughter in the article is heartbreaking. His wife is also battling COVID but is still alive, if you want to pray for her healing. I have. May God bless and comfort this grieving church as well. |

These are confusing and troubling times. I pray for his family, especially his wife right now, and for his church. I can't be their judge, but I'd sure rather stand with them than with the hateful world right now who exhibits an attitude of victory whenever a Christian leader dies for whatever reason. God help our nation, especially our leaders who face the most important decisions of many of our lifetimes, how to move forward. |

I did not agree with the man but I cannot believe those mocking and celebrating his death. If someone takes a stand for their faith and dies does not make them wrong. |

No doubt about it, IMO.
At the core, this is the story of a pastor who thought he knew better with tragic consequences. But I empathize with him. COVID is an invisible enemy, as the president keeps saying. We've never experienced anything like it in our lifetimes. We have no frame of reference for it. I don't think it's completely unreasonable for someone to think what he did when he did, even though he was obviously wrong.
I just hope living pastors are reading these stories. Now we do know. And we can and must continue taking steps to ensure that this horrible story doesn't get repeated. |

The church has taken down their website (understandably so) but I was able to find cached copies of it and he did indeed have quite the legacy of good works in his area. Thank you for sharing this article also. |
