Post YES, I DO BELIEVE people in Dalton received genuine miracles even if leaders "may" have been counterfiet doyle
Just read the article on the Board about the "Bible Miracle Oil" of Dalton, Georgia; that it may have been purchased at a Tractor store. Thank you Dave for posting it. Following is some thinking about it. Feel free to share your opinion, disagree, enhance it etc.

Though we do believe in the possibility of miracles, our faith is based primarily on only ONE. Our faith is based upon the miracle of God's love as spoken of in John 3:16, and the events that ensued from that greatest miracle of all.

The substance of the various oils used in anointing services, do not come from heaven. The vials of "Anointing Oil" many of us have often used to pray for folks, are supposedly plant-based but it is not the "substance" that generates faith.

The oil is a reminder of the presence of the Holy Spirit. It is the possibility of His presence that lifts the seeker's faith, gives them hope of Divine intervention in their situation. Whatever the oil substance, it is their raised-faith that clears away the fog of doubt and opens their mind once again to "With God, ALL THINGS are possible."

That is why it is so vitally important that they are told only the truth and not given faith placebos instead. In these kinds of situations, integrity is an absolute.

Surrounded by sin, suffering, pain, doubt, injustice; smothered by a continuous hammering against faith and hope, in some people it takes something unusual, out of the norm, to light a fire of faith in them again.

For example, the color or texture of the proverbial Prayer Cloth does not heal anyone. However, it is a visible reminder that God has healed in the past. It helps rekindle and open the hope that He will again. It is totally human to want something to feel, to touch that reminds us of God's presence.

We are told that "Faith is the substance of things hoped for..." Technically, a shadow has no particular "substance" but the hope of a touch from God, the longing of a miracle, certainly does when it comes to faith. Many were healed by the shadow of Peter's garment.

It matters much if in Dalton if there was intentional misleading as to the source of the oil, but it matters little to those who testify of receiving a miracle. It was not the substance of the oil that brought their miracle. It was their belief, their raised-faith in the possibility of a miracle, that may have contributed to their receiving one.

We who are continuously around things of faith, may sometimes forget how strong in suffering people is the longing for a miracle; anything to help lift them from their despair.

So yes, I do believe the reality that some people received a miracle in Dalton even if it is proven those who led the proceedings may have mislead them about the substance of the oil.

[b]YOUR INPUT, REBUTTAL and ENHANCEMENT WELCOMED: The above is some of my thinking about the issue. Yours is welcome too.

Doyle

God is astoundingly merciful and loving toward his people. I have no doubt that genuine miracles happen in places where there is sin and falsehood. This is simply a function of how magnificently wonderful and good our God really is.

But it's all the more reason to be very discerning about what is being taught and presented. The presence of a genuine miracle cannot be taken as evidence to affirm a teaching, a teacher, a meeting, or in this case a supernatural phenomenon. We are cautioned again and again in Scripture to focus on doctrine and truth, and not to be led astray by a sign or a wonder. Thank God for his boundless, limitless mercy which he surely shows to his people in any and all situations.

From their website:

"THE OIL IS IN US

Many people feel like there is no hope for healing unless they can obtain a vial of oil. In all of our meetings we have continually taught that this is not “magic oil”. The oil is a sign, and the Lord has used it to awaken callings and get His children moving and activated in their priesthood as believers. What we have witnessed is when people have the vial of oil in their hands boldness has increased. Many who would have hesitated to pray for others have had the courage to move by the unction of the Holy Spirit and operate in their priesthood by laying on of hands and praying for God’s people who need a touch from Him. The result has been uncounted miraculous healings, salvations, deliverances, and much more.

It is so important to understand this…..the Lord has sent the oil, and it is wonderful, and we are so grateful for it. It is a point of contact, similar to Acts 19:11-12 where the Bible describes that “God was performing extraordinary miracles by Paul’s hands, so that even facecloths or aprons that had touched his skin were brought to the sick, and the diseases left them, and the evil spirits came out of them.” This is the scripture where the church tradition of anointed prayer cloths has come from.

Before the oil flowing from the Bible came, God was healing. God has been healing His children for 2000 years. Jesus healed all who came to Him for healing (Matthew 12:15, Luke 6:19 and more). Further, the disciples carried out the healing ministry of Jesus (Matthew 10:1, Luke 9:1). Then, when Jesus ascended, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to LIVE IN US. We are told to continue the ministry of healing that Jesus and the disciples carried (Luke 9:2, Matthew 10:8, Luke 10:9 and more).

There are many scriptures that describe oil as a symbol of Holy Spirit. The very word “anoint” means to smear with oil. Now, we are the temple of God, Holy Spirit living in us. Thus, THE OIL IS IN US! (I Corinthians 6:19, II Corinthians 6:16, Ephesians 2:20, I Peter 2:4-5).

Therefore, even without the “point of contact” oil, we pray that your understanding of who you are in Christ grows, your faith grows, and that you can confidently operate in your priesthood, praying the prayer of faith, for physical healing or whatever the need is, knowing God (Holy Spirit…Oil) lives in you!"

Many years ago Marjoe Gortner was on the Johnny Carson show.

He related how several people were actually healed in his meetings.

Even though he was a complete fraud.

He was astonished at this.

Jesus heals, no one or nothing else.
