The bottom line for me is, Lincoln based his war on a complete myth of history, that the "union was older than any of the states" and in fact "the union created the states." Notice he did NOT base his actions on the states relinquishing their sovereignty upon ratifying the constitution, which would have been a more logical argument (though still incorrect). In short, preventing states withdrawing from the Union was an not authorized by the Constitution. A state's sovereignty is its people. An aggregate American people did not ratify the Constitution, the people of 13 sovereignties did, as states. When i mention this, critics start citing court decisions. Well, a court can invalidate the sovereignty of a state. _________________ "It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves UPCI |
