Not much to say, except that sadly another influencial voice in the church has succumbed to the lies of Satan. Sadder still will be the fallout among those who revere(d)him.

I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS MAN, but of course I did not know him either, but I do understand SOME of the concerns that drove him to this point. it drives many Christians and church members away.
I started to list some, but i may be misunderstood. I will limit it to "Hearing promises 'derived' from the Bible by ministers, either well meaning or wolves." Those promises have devastated many believers who are taken down the wrong path by Church leaders.

One example from my family I know of personally:
A close member of our family whose home was going into foreclosure wrote an $80,000 check to his mortgage company, fully believing what a minister had told him, plant a seed with me and write the check in faith believing and GOD will deposit the money in your account."

The above situation can happen to a Christian even a minister inside their head when they do not SEE the things he/she fully expected to see, using promises in the scriptures as an example, most of the time out of context.
Shocked Shocked Shocked

My prayers for this man and his family. Idea

What's really frightening is that he uses biblical nomenclature ("falling away") to describe his exodus from the faith! Acts Enthusiast

His whole movement was a farce anyway. It should have never been accepted into the church. Just because it was different - and addressed a problem that is real - did not mean his solution was any better than what we had been doing.

I will give him credit - at least he isn't saying he is entering a new season with his divorce. He accepts that he has left the faith. He gets an "A" for honesty - and that might be the best thing he leaves for the church. Man up and admit where you stand with God - it is his best hope of being restored.

When I first heard about his Instagram post about this, I had two reactions; I cried and I started praying. It truly breaks my heart to see so many people these days just walk away from the faith.

What really crushes me is those on-line who have either made fun of or have said "Well there is no way back for him". Nothing is ever impossible.

difference in a person who struggles with a sin versus choosing to walk away from the faith. It appears he is dealing with the latter.

I don't have an answer for how many walk away and then come back, but we do have an example on this very board of someone who did.

My beef is with the keyboard theologians who quote scripture and say that it means God will never allow someone to return after they walk away.

Hope extends until your last breath.

Anyone who jumps on their computer just to condem someone to an eternity lost with no hope of restoration is hardly a person I would give any credence to. Unfortunately however many do fall victim to this sort of mental bondage. Like you,I believe in hope until my last breath this side of heaven.

I was sad to read this. While I did not agree with the premise of his book, it greatly influenced my kids, though I did talk with them about it. My older son, who has also stepped away from the faith - to my shock and anguish - has just become engaged earlier this year at the age of 39. I wonder sometimes if that book influenced some of his decisions.

Still, anytime someone whose grounding has been in faith and in the Word...it's really sad to see this. What is happening to our younger generation's experience of faith?

I don’t think the younger generation is much different other than culture. I am thrilled to see so many young people who are engaged in faith. I’m actually surprised. A lot of my generation grew up on works based religion and fell because of it. Acts-pert Poster

Was he saved to begin with?

Is he renouncing faith in Christ?

Perhaps his salvation was previously based on works?

I pray for his soul...

Meantime... what damage is done to the Body of Christ!

It says he was a reformed/Calvinist.

By definition - he was never saved.

6. I kissed my wife goodbye.

I got the impression from the first article I read (the one I posted) that he was turning to the gay lifestyle, but the 2nd one says he has just apologized to the LBGTQ community for not standing up for them and accepting them.

Whatever it is, it's sad. Sad
