Post Trump wusses down on border wall Nature Boy Florida
Wanted 5 billion - gets nothing.

But gives 10+ billion to Central American countries out of discretionary funds that don't have to be approved by Congress?

What gives?

I am actually in favor of helping our Central American neighbors - but how about 5 billion for them and the full 5 billion for the wall. Again - that money doesn't even need Congressional approval for some reason - it's already in a pot to be spent somewhere.

Those of you in favor of Trump getting put out - he's got 2 years max at this point.

He is nothing more than another bigtime Republican loser at getting things done.
Obamacare lives.
Unlimited illegal immigration goes on.
Who knows on abortion.

Jeb Bush would have done just as well without the tweets.

Props to NBF for calling it like it is. Seems like many in MAGA Nation, from Limbaugh on down, want to blame everyone BUT the president for it.

$5b for the wall, $5b for Central American economic development sounds like a great idea to me.

Trump tweets:

With so much talk about the Wall, people are losing sight of the great job being done on our Southern Border by Border Patrol, ICE and our great Military. Remember the Caravans? Well, they didn’t get through and none are forming or on their way. Border is tight. Fake News silent!

If the border is tight, we don’t need no stinkin’ wall, do we? He’s setting y’all up.

Sorry Trump.

Physical wall is needed.

And it's symbolic of the even bigger problem of getting rid of folks that overstay their welcome illegally.

As soon as Dems get in the White House - ICE is depleted - or deleted. Open borders.

Trump knows this.

He has failed miserably here.

Simply no excuse.

Agreed. This is a major campaign promise and he has a chance to stand up to the dems and let them be the ones who either give in or be the bad guys for blocking it. Instead he folds like a broken law chair. Between this and his poor choice in Kavanaugh, he is looking bad. Now his economy is tanking (albeit yesterday's fiasco seems suspiciously partisan in nature by the Fed who hates him too) . His last chance is going to be China. How many times did we hear "China, China, China". If he caves to them, then he is toast. Golf Cart Mafia Consigliere

In one tweet he says “we have defeated ISIS.” In another tweet he says “ Russia, Iran and Syria will have to fight ISIS.”

He gone crazy.

It could be that he really is as isolated right now as the media is saying. That might explain some bad decision making. If he doesn't have ANY good counsel right now, it could be catastrophic.

While I have supported him through the last 2 years as much as I can (and still am thankful that Killbilly isn't pres), my biggest worry during the primaries (when I did not support him) was that he would make a mess and sour the GOP so much that the dems would win every major election for the next 20 years. I pray I was wrong. But then, I'm really turned off by the GOP right now anyways.

What a mess

I have thought for many years that we should annex Mexico as a territory, and establish law and order there, and place them on a pathway to become a prosperous, reasonably law-abiding state. It would be a lot easier to protect Mexico’s southern border than our own. Of course, the problem with that would be that we’d likely gain a whole bunch more Democrats. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

Mexico has always been a socialist country, sometimes more so, sometimes less. To absorb their povery and corruption would plunge the US into the abyss. I hate to think about it, but a puppet government would be a better idea in my opinion. It would help them and us at the same time. We should have done that back in 1836 in my opinion, it would have prevented countless years of misery for both of our countries.

I was thinking of putting a huge damper on their corruption, not ‘absorbing’ it, whatever that might mean. One very big reason Mexico stays impoverished is because their govt is so corrupt. Also, I would propose doing away with socialism altogether, not just continuing with it as is.

Unless a puppet state could do the above, it would not be helpful at all, as best I can tell.

Why do I have to be he one to follow-up on this thread? Trump is not wimping out or backing down. He will veto any bill that does not include wall funding.

Respectfully, you have yet to be right in your pessemistic view of Trump. He IS the only hope for 2020 as he was the only hope for 2016.

Again, a little more research on your part would nullify what you perceive to be a contradiction. But you never bother.

A puppet state can be controlled without it directly absorbing into ours. Yes, that puppet-state would have to end socialism and enact a million reforms before it would be safe to open our borders. I hate the idea of "puppet states", but it might actually be welcomed by many in Mexico.

Now Trump is tweeting that he won't sign anything without a border wall. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what he does. Maybe its all part of his "never show your real hand" negotiation tactics after all. Golf Cart Mafia Consigliere

How will they end socialism when we are implementing socialism?
