Falsehoods that are propagated in the church?

I will start the first one.

1. When we die, we will go to heaven to live for all eternity with no thought of the thousand years of peace, reigning with Christ, or the new heaven and the new earth.

He declared for a good portion of his life that we were not going to heaven (or certainly not to stay), but would reign on the earth...and then on the new earth.

So far, I've not been able to make a good case against that.

For my own ministry, I realize that what is meant by "going to heaven" is not so much the literalness of living forever in heaven, but of the literalness of living forever in the presence of the Lord (on earth, heaven, or elsewhere).

Salvation offered by a televangelist or anybody else with the sinner's prayer method then the "Welcome to the family of God greeting." The idea of presenting Christ this way with no mention of repentance from sin and sanctification is damaging to people and the body of Christ.
I understand we cannot clean ourselves up in our own strength before coming to God.

There is no separation between faith in Christ and repentance.

Those who believe will repent.

No exceptions.

Andy, usually I agree with your posts and maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean here or perhaps you are misunderstanding my post. I am not saying one has to work his or her way to salvation or that repentance from sin and faith in Christ are not enough for one's acceptance of God's grace.

What I am saying in regards to wrong teaching is the idea that what I see some televangelists or others do concerning using any means and emotional push possible to tell people they can have the guarantee of heaven by repeating the common sinner's prayer.

The Bible consistently teaches repentance from sin and faith is Christ as the way to salvation. I am referring to the false teaching that presents grace as the sinner's prayer alone. Therefore, the person can go back to any type of sinful pattern without addressing transgressions towards God.

I personally know people who have said the prayer but go back to the sins us Christians usually highlight (adultery, fornication/living together, drugs, getting drunk, pornography) and other sins without trying to change and bear fruit that goes along with repentance.

Yes I get you and agree.

The difference is between someone who is manipulated into a "sinner's prayer" and someone who has believed in their heart, genuinely and sincerely that Jesus Christ is indeed the Son of God.

That experience of faith will produce the fruit of repentance AND a desire to submit to Christ as a disciple.

Saul of Tarsus is the first example to come to mind.

There are many more.

I Timothy 3
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

For those whose stance is that the Bible requires teetotalerism, why would deacons be forbidden from drinking too much Welch's grape juice?

Ephesians 5
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

How much Welch's grape juice does it take to get drunk? Whatever amount it takes would be excess, right?
