Post When Did Lee University...? Quiet Wyatt
Begin pursuing and attain accreditation as a liberal arts college?

Begin hiring non-CoG professors, if they do?

Grant Dr. Carolyn Dirksen tenure, if they did?

Also, do you know if professors and instructors at Lee are required to agree with the CoG official teachings, such as the Declaration of Faith?

Thanks. I honestly do not know the answers to the above questions, and would really like to be able to answer someone who is asking me these questions.

Thanks!

I don't see this as an attack.

Just an honest inquiry.

You see it correctly. Did someone imply otherwise?

Not me. I’m simply saying send the prez an email with your questions. That will be better than speculation from pen names. I don’t know the answers.

Where was someone implying attack? This seems like there being a post asking why Coca-Cola moved from cane sugar to beet sugar, someone giving the direct access for the answer, and then someone swooping in as if the questioner/info provider were somehow at odds.

On the other hand, if said information is needed, why not go to the source instead of a third-party? THAT seems a little skewed, ESPECIALLY knowing the history of this forum and VERY similarly based conversations in the past.

So, none of you good folks who know the answers can post them?

If these questions are asked in good faith with no arterial motives why not just provide the information?

Why bother a very busy man whose plate I'm sure is full every day.

Sheesh! Shocked

It was a liberal arts college when I applied in 1979 - so it's been a while.

My father-in-law was President when I went there. My brother-in-law is President now. I don’t know the answers to those questions. I if knew, I would have posted. So, I just suggested an email.

I'm not sure, but I believe these 2 answers are related.

As for when it became a Liberal Arts College (and I really am embarrassed that so many think that "Liberal Arts" is even remotely related to "liberal ideology", not saying anyone here thinks that, I've just seen a few comments that make me think some do), Wikipedia says it became an accredited 4 year Liberal Arts college in 1968 (if I'm reading that right). It added a junior college program as early as 1948, but not sure if that meets the criteria of the question.

I had a pastor who was there during the transition. I also had a Sunday School teacher who went there while it was still the BTS in the 40s.

Dr. Dirksen just completed 50 years at Lee...so she came there around 1968.

I suspect she had tenure.

There is no question she is a Democrat - and takes some pretty far left views - as she happily posts them on her facebook page.

She also has been involved in numerous - and I mean a lot of - volunteer work around the world - helping the underprivileged.

That is pretty much everything I know.

1. There are plenty of professors who are not COG teaching and have tenure at Lee University. I would say most of them are outside the School of Religion. Most are Baptist, if not COG.

2. Carolyn had tenure. As mentioned, she has done many things for COG and for Lee, despite her being democrat. I have known her for quite some time, never knowing she was a "lefty." Never came up, nor did I care.

3. Professors are told not to disagree or de-value with any COG teachings in the classroom.

Hope this helps. I've been both a student, worked, and taught there. Loved my time there. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask!

If she has been there 50 years, guess it doesn't matter. Laughing Laughing Laughing
