Is this too crude to preach?

Back when I was an undergrad in college, I heard one of the campus preachers, probably Brother Jed, tell the girls who fornicated that prostitutes were smarter than they were because they did the same things, but got money to it. I think his point was that it was all fornication. They did not like that.

What do you think of an illustration on this point for a sermon against fornication? Something along these lines?

Quote:

Who do the people of this world consider to be lower class, a prostitute who gets $3000 per client or a prostitute who is willing to perform her services for 25 cents? Most people would say the one who accepts 25 cents. Then what would you say of those who do the same thing for free?

The Bible calls it 'fornication'. The Greek word is 'porneia.' And it is the same word used for prostitution. It is the same sin, whether you do it for money or you do it for free. There are many free prostitutes who consider themselves higher class, somehow better or more righteous than free prostitutes. But it is all sin.

What do you think? Is that appropriate for mixed company? For a group of young men only? If you consider it to be inappropriate, is this based on some biblical reasoning or just left over Victorian ethics?

I personally see nothing wrong with it. But I have learned over the years if you have something controversial to say, either it must be 'anointed approved by HIM', or the speaker had better know his location and his audience.

I think that would be a very good illustration for a lady teacher and young adult females.

The old joke about a nice lady being asked if she would sleep with a stranger for a million dollars. comes to mind. Embarassed

Post Heard this one from one of my atheist professors.... Aaron Scott
A man asked a woman if she would sleep with him for a million dollars. She responded, "Yes!"

Then he asked, "How about for $25 dollars?"

She replied, "No, way! What sort of woman do you think I am?"

He replied, "Ma'am, we've already established what sort of woman you are. We are only negotiating price now."

Just create a sermon series on the subject, almost anything goes when ya do that (cf. Bring Back Sexy, Girls Gone Wild, both of which were sermon series discussed on Acts a while back). Acts-pert Poster
