Post The Voice/Brooke Mills Simpson (L) Carolyn Smith
In case you haven't heard, we have another Lee grad appearing on The Voice this season, Brooke Mills Simpson. (She was a featured singer with with Campus Choir during her time at Lee.) She sang "Amazing Grace" last night & hit #2 on the Itune charts today! This one was her choice (most of the others have been her coach's choices for her.) She did an amazing job.

Link to her song below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_y2xNUu2aU

Brooke's parents are both credentialed ministers in the COG, and her dad (Mike) is a state evangelist for ENC. These folks are the real deal. Very humble, sweet, genuine folks that love the Lord. They are also both Native American. Brooke traveled with her parents all of her growing up years and has been singing publicly since she was 2.

The judges have treated her very kindly this season and told her in the blind auditions that she had superstar quality and have told her several times she takes things "to the next level."

If y'all are so inclined, the votes happen on Monday evenings that will keep her in the competition. Tune in next week on NBC & support this amazing young lady!

If I wanted to be on one of those shows - I would sure make my way to Lee for some coaching.

They do well every season now.

And - they represent the college well - very well - when they make it.

They actually teach people how to sing and not use one of those auto-tuners that all the "famous" singers are using today Rolling Eyes . Acts Enthusiast

I listened and enjoyed it. The Mills Family has been to our church many times and are just like Carolyn described. I had not heard Brooke recently. Her already good voice has developed even more. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

No offense, but Brooke could sing long before she went to Lee, though I am sure they helped her refine her gift.

Brooke's mom asked for prayer today for Brooke, asking for prayer for a physical touch for her as well as favor. Four of the contestants will be eliminated this week, and four invited back for the final week. If you're watching, please vote as many times as you can. You can use different e-mail addresses to vote, also.

On a personal note, Brooke's mom (Jimille Mills) won 1st place in Senior Adult Talent Female Vocal Solo this year, and I placed second behind her. I felt pretty honored to even be put in the same class as her. Smile Brooke's dad, Mike, also placed first in Percussion Indefinite Pitch. They really are fine folks.

Post I voted for solo but not duet spartanfan
When I went to vote for her I voted for the solo (it was really good) but then on the Duet it said she sang a song from "50 Shades of Grey" (if I read it right) and somehow I just couldn't pull the trigger to place a vote that would in any way promote a movie that all of the reviews say promotes anti Christian behavior. I personally had to draw the line there. But I hope she stays in.

No doubt she could sing great before getting to Lee.

But there are lots of awesome singers that can't get onto those programs.

Lee seems to have a pipeline/coaching to assist making it into the TV rounds.

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I am sure Lee has helped Brooke to refine her talent, and you're right...a lot of great singers have been rejected at auditions.

However, from what I understand the "auto-tuners" help you stay on pitch and even "bend" the note to the right pitch. I don't think Brooke needs that kind of help. She's been singing with her mom & dad since she was 2 and can carry a tune and knows how to sing harmony. That's what I was talking about.

Kind of makes you wonder if you have to provide references to audition for these shows. Perhaps there's someone that knows someone along the line. Smile

I wasn't thrilled with that, either, though I didn't think the song was risque at all. Not that I know hardly any of the secular songs they are singing. LOL

Not sure what's gonna happen tonight. According to the ITunes charts, Brooke isn't in the Top 4, but 3 are going to sing for the save. The first 3 announced are safe, the bottom two go home, and the middle three sing for the save. Votes are done via Twitter tonight.
