There are high profile folk I think live one way in the lime light and another outside that. But I always thought Jerry was one of them. I never followed his life, but did like Martin and Lewis. Of the two I liked Jerry best, LOL.
Of course I thought my man Cosby was one of those who was just down right good. I followed his life, watched his shows and admired him, NOW Imma thinking, maybe I was wrong.
BUT, Jerry wasn't OLD! funny the closer you get to OLD, it moves a few years out! hahahahaha _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I guess ole Jerry just didn't have the faith. It was his fault he died. |

Can I go on record that I really didn't think he was funny?
Is there something wrong with me?
He seemed more angry than funny to me.
I can appreciate the money raised for MDA - and being angry at muscle diseases seems appropriate to me. But he wasn't very funny at the telethon or his movies to me.
Perhaps I am the only one. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

I do appreciate his charity and his conservative views, but I agree, he always made me feel awkward, like his main character was a mentally challenged 11 year old. Not funny. |

No, you're not the only one. In his day, he was funny, I think. But his comedy became very dated. When he would go on a late night talk show and try to make one of those Jerry Lewis faces, it was cringe-worthy.
It's kind of like a singer, I suppose, that goes to a Hillsongs church and sings a solo of "Just Build My Mansion Next Door Jesus." That song was no doubt a blessing to many in it's time, but it now is hopelessly dated and theological understandings have developed beyond that, etc.
I noted the same thing with Don Rickles. When he would be on a talk show, he would say things (things that today would get you branded as a racist) that were just pitiful, it seemed. But the hosts--most of whom have a special love for comedy--loved it, it seemed.
These guys greatly influenced those who came afterwards (Jerry Lewis invented "video assist"--which means a filmed scene can be immediately reviewed on video tape). Thankfully, influencing others did not mean that the others imitated Lewis. |
