Post Fake News and Stuff Cojak
I am not sure of the Trump Presidency, I am still in a confused, wait and see attitude (Like I could do otherwise, Shocked )

The thread about a Web Site called 'Babylon-Bee'. I had never heard of it and still have not been there. I have no reason to, I guess. But it brought up something that bugs me. I can never get this straight about Fake News. At first I thought 'Fake News' was about news someone did not like and just fluffed it off as, "Hey that is Fake News". But when I read where it appeared someone had published an article as TRUTH but later had to say like Jim Bakker, "(I WAS) We WERE WRONG" then it breeds a question in my mind when I read, "My SOURCES (unnamed) say, etc", I immediately question the ?FACTS?

Do we have a NEW WAY to bring attention to something we do not like? I mean we have always had the 'Enquirer' type of news that MOST thinking folk laughed, if they read it. But we now have main stream media 'SEEMINGLY' doing it.

The STUFF:
As I said I 'ain't' real happy with the Trump era, EXCEPT he has make a permanent positive mark on the Supreme Court, IMHO. That would not have happened had Hillary sat in the Oval Office.

Now this thing with Russia? Is our Congress determined to re-start the Cold WAR? Is there a positive side to that? Am I seeing that wrong?

How does this affect (the Christian) Global aim to spread the Gospel?? Do we here on Acts have any input from that part of the world?

Lots of Stuff on my mind when I have too much free time! Embarassed

Yes, there is always a temptation for news organizations to pimp themselves to ratings or being the first to scoop. Those temptations can result in fake news. Then there is the issue of political ideologies and biases driving them. I remember when CNN reported on Buzzfeed publishing that junk dossier on Trump. When I first heard Jake Tapper reporting on it, my thought was that he was a serious journalist and this was a potentially big story.
I guess the best thing to hope for is that since we still have a free press, the truth eventually comes out somewhere. What's amazing, for good or bad, with social media, we can all be part of the press nowadays.

There's "Fake News" and there's "Fake News". It depends on the context I guess.

Some "Fake News" is totally fabricated sensational lies ("Obama holds Black Mass on Whitehouse Lawn")

Other "Fake News", such as the kind Trump keeps referring to is more like Satan's lies. A lot of truth and "facts" sprinkled with conjecture and pointing to the wrong conclusion. I see it every single day. For instance, I read on CNN.com about the trouble in Venezuela. It covered the basic circumstances, such as riots, starvation, supply issues, waiting lines, oil-prices, etc.. But not one time did it mention the root-cause of the whole chaotic scene, socialism. Every single problem the article describe was a direct result of socialism and anyone who was out of diapers by the 80s would remember it distinctly as a halmark of every socialist regime in the world at the time from China to Russia, from North Korea to Cuba. But this article completely ignored the elephant in the room, mostly because it would undermine their overall agenda of bringing the USA into their socialist utopia.

That is the real, dangerous "fake news", not the one that is easily dismissed (like the Babylon Bee).

Good point about the context of the phrase "fake news." I do think Trump's use of the term has expanded the meaning from what was originally "intentionally untrue smears designed to deceive" to... and this is where it gets a bit fuzzy because Trump hasn't been all that precise in how he's used it, either--sometimes seemingly saying it just about unflattering news, but sometimes about news that was biased, sometimes about news that was not focused on what he thought it should be. The Babylon Bee isn't fake news. It is satire. It is written as though it is real but it's making fun of the situation because it's so ludicrous! If you ever see anything from The Onion, it is also satire.

We have to learn to read the fine print and understand who it is that's writing this stuff. I don't believe a lot of the real media at this point. Satire is supposed to make you laugh.

Imma hoping it works that way, At my age I need a lot of laughs. The high dollar hiring by Osteen of an associate lately, was sort comical! Smile
