Post Former AG pastor said; Jesus saves no one JLarry
Went to hear A very old friend, a former AG pastor who is a very intelligent man preach a few weeks ago.

He said; "Jesus does not save anyone, Christ saves".

He is one of those guys who is to smart for himself. He went on to say the Gen. Superintendent of the AG is not saved and has never been.

That will be the last time I plan to hear him. Very good man but so mixed up.

OUCH, it is so sad when someone you know (especially) seems to jump over board and start treading water. Then fussing at the folks in the life boat. Shocked

If only there were some spiritual authority that he could be handed over to for correction and/or expulsion.

From my understanding from two VERY close sources, Swaggart has come to an agreement with George Wood and will be entering/has entered back into the Assemblies of God. Friendly Face

I think you should talk to him and call him out on the nonsense. If he won't listen, tell him he is too smart for himself, that he needs to humble himself and listen to other people who call him on his nonsense.

All I am at liberty to share at this time concerning the Swaggart/AG reconciliation story is to say that only a fire can produce that much smoke. When I am at liberty to share more I will.

I have verified this with both someone on staff at Family Worship Center and a member of the Executive Presbytery of the AG. It's true. Friendly Face

And to make it even more shocking, I understand that the AG approached Swaggart, and not the other way around!

Wow, I've been thinking about leaving the AG church we've gone to for the last 2 years, I may be heading back to the COG. (either that or a sane Catholic or Orthodox church to get away from all of the crazy) Golf Cart Mafia Consigliere

Post Re: Former AG pastor said; Jesus saves no one bonnie knox
You know, I might just try to look at this from a different angle. Some people think Jesus was a "good man" and a "good teacher." If that had been all he was, he could not have saved us. But he is the Christ (Matthew 16:16-20), and therefore we have redemption through him.
Is it possible that's what this guy was saying?
Just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Now, if he truly said the Gen. Supt. of the AG has never been saved, I don't know what to make of that (though, if he is trying to bring JS in, I might question some of his decisions).

Bonnie,
I think you are on to something here. I thought the same thing. The original greek name was not Jesus but IĆ©sous (ee-ay-sooce'). It was a common name in the time. But He being the Christ is what has saved us!
