Post Different reactions to the same gospel Resident Skeptic
While it is true that we are saved by "grace through faith" (Eph. 2:8-9), God also declares that he only gives "grace" to the "humble" (James 4:6). God resists the proud. It is ironic that something like the gospel, that is supposed to be "good news", has such drastically different effects on different hearers. To all who hear it, it will bring a realization of one's lack of right-standing before a holy God and their need to have Christ's righteousness imputed to them by way of the new birth of the Holy Spirit (regeneration).

But not all react with joy to these realizations. Thankfully, some "humble" themselves, thus enabling God to give them "grace" unto salvation. But others react in a prideful manner, still trying to convince themselves that their own good works are enough to commend them to God, rejecting the sacrifice of the Savior and the need to submit to his Lordship. These people are the "proud" that God resists. To them, the gospel is "bad news". But one day, EVERY knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:10)

Post Or,as Jesus said..... FLRon
"He that has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches".

The gospel has always been offensive to the proud, but what I'm seeing in many places today takes it to a whole different level.
