Dangerous New Trend: COG Pastors selecting their own successor

That was the title of a thread originated by MI6 days ago, moreover I believe it applies here. The retirement announcement made by Pastor Carroll Smith has spurred an influx of interest and resumes, however in the end, when the new pastor is installed, do not be surprised if it is a familiar face to the congregation.

If that's what the congregation wants then that is what it should be. I have my own opinion about this situation and it may differ from what is likely to happen, but in the end I think the congregation needs to be heard.

I do not think it is a dangerous trend, but I do think since we do have a 'chain of command' that the overseer should be brought in on the plan before any announcement (or proclamation) is made. If the church request is not considered and the 'anointed one' is not on the ballot it should be written in just to let the overseer know the way the wind is blowing.

I personally do not care for family to be 'assured of the church'. i.e. BIL, Son, wife, or daughter. BUT IF IT IS THE BEST FIT so be it. Cool
ONLY if the congregation votes overwhelmingly for the 'appointed one'. Embarassed
