Post Moving away from an Israelocentric eschatology Resident Skeptic
Just curious to know if there are any on this board whose eschatology departs from the current traditional emphasis on the reconstitution of Israel as a nation in 1948. To put it another way, are there any on here who do not see the reconstitution of Israel as a fulfillment of biblical prophecy?

We have a Messianic congregation that uses our facility on Saturdays. The pastor (like our own Mark L) is very knowledgeable about all things Hebraic. He does not see "1948" as some key major date, but definitely feels that Israel will once again become crucial in eschatology. Many don't realize this, but the nation of Israel is largely secular. I think most Christians envision the nation of Israel as devout adherents to Judaism. That simply isn't the case.

However, Paul seems to indicate in Romans 11 that there is certainly a future significance for Israel. Not to mention all major eschatological prophecies seem to center around the Middle East.

Judaism was destroyed in 70 AD and is never going to revive.

Now THAT is a point that few grasp. Biblical Judaism has not been practised for centuries.

I still consider what you said here to be basically correct.

Just for the sake of argument, what if we are wrong? What if the Jewish state were to be conquered and overthrown at some point in the future? How would that effect your eschatology?

Post Just some questions to consider: Pastor Wright
Who is the true Israel?

A nation?
A religion?
An ethnicity?

Or, are those who follow Israel's Messiah (*cough* Jesus *cough*) the true Israel?

A very valid point , certainly worth being discussed and considered. But , as you notice, there are few takers on this thread.

The nation of Israel today claims an ethnicity that goes back to the Old Testament. They are not a religion and I don't believe they ever will. Jewish Israel was destroyed by Christ and his heavenly host in 70 AD -never to exist again.
