Post Many years ago, T.L. Lowery... Aaron Scott
For those of a certain age, you will recall there was a time when T.L. Lowery was the most well-known evangelist of our denomination. His reach was beyond the walls of the denomination. It seems that jealousy began to arise in the ranks of the higher-ups.

I cannot recall the wording of the matter, but it seems that it was somehow expressed that T. L. Lowery needed to come under the authority of the Church of God instead of being, I suppose, an apparent lone ranger out on the evangelism frontier.

Unbelievably, T.L. humbly complied. This would be near-unimaginable today, I think. But God blessed him for that. He eventually became the pastor of North Cleveland, later National Church of God--both mega churches. He became a great force in Church of God leadership. At the same time, his own personal ministry continued to abound.

Just some thoughts....

I remember those days. I believe his ministry would have been much bigger if they would have left him alone.

He probably would have been even a bigger blessing to the the CoG. Like Jentezen Franklin and Marcas Lamb.

My opinion is that T. L. Lowery was poised to succeed Oral Roberts on an international scale.

His ministry would have been historic.

Post Response... Aaron Scott
I don't hardly know how he COULD have been bigger at the time. He was world famous, became the spiritual father to several mega-church pastors, etc.

And he did it holding his head high and submitting (even though he perhaps didn't have to) to the Church of God.

I DO think that his submission caused God to honor him. Had he resisted, he might never have went much further. Consider how Jimmy Swaggart refused to submit to the Aseemblies of God...and he has never fully recovered.

Apples and oranges.

Bro Lowery didn't do anything wrong.

Why hamstring a man?
