Post HOW IT HAPPENED that we began sharing about ministers who have passed from this life. doyle
In my opinion, one of the BEST things this board does, is share the names of fellow ministers who have passed from this life to their eternal reward. It provides opportunity for viewers who knew them, to share what their life meant to them. However, when we started doing that, not everyone was happy about it.

Not only was COG headquarters (at the time), slow to get going on the internet, in some cases, officials were openly hostile to it. The COG was a very tightly-controlled organization - nearly totally top-down in authority as it is now. Some officials then, did everything they could to stop people from posting on Actscelerate.

Some preached against it at Camp Meeting which we especially appreciated because every time that happened, traffic here picked up dramatically. One called it "Intellectual pornography." Wow. Traffic boomed after that. Evidently not many had seen anything intellectual before Smile. Just kidding.

We've never done any advertising whatsoever, but those who wanted to shut down a place of expression they didn't control, did it for us. Thank you.

One claim then was that we were trying to puiblish an uuathorized news publicantion that they felt threatened the Evangel. At the time, since publishing a magazine is much more involved than placing something on the internet, it was taking the COG Evangel, in magazine form, five months before publishing the names of ministers who had passed.

As Actscelerate viewers began publishing the news of minister friends of theirs passing, we began tacking those announcements at the top of Page One. We still do as an expression of honor for those who have labored in the Harvest with us.

And as we knew those years ago, communication among COG people, especially those on the front lines in ministry, is a good thing. People who feel connected, are more apt to stay with the group to which they feel connected.

That's my opinion. What's yours?

Now just for clarification, was it called intellectual porn or ecclesiastical porn? [Insert Acts Pun Here]

I agree our brothers who had passed. Being posted on Acts allowed me to give condolences and flowers (or gift in lieu of flowers) to the family at the time it was appropriate. At least twice it was a good friend but in another state..
Yes.. And Thanks again for a place to publish. Cool

No dementia or alzheimers active in your brain Bonnie.

I had agreed with Doyle - until I read your post - and you are correct.

Ecclesiastical porn was such a good turn of phrase, though.

Yeah, I was just having a hard time wrapping my mind around the phrase "intellectual porn." I figured that was something like we math students used to say: "sex is the sublimation of the math urge." Laughing

Oops, there I go down a rabbit trail, again.
So, no noticeable dementia (except for 2 very STUPID things I did this month), but maybe attention deficit disorder?

Bonnie You only did two stupid things this month? How did you improve?

Kidding.

I wish I only did 2 stupid things a day, let alone a month!
