Post Name Recognition Cojak
One doesn't need to hint that you can get ahead in the COG or any other church or business if you have a recognizable name associated with that organization. No hint is necessary, it is true. It is obvious. But you do not decide whose home you are born in. As a kid I sometimes thought it would have been nice to have a millionaire for a dad, but I didn't, my dad was a COG preacher.

Some folk consider the name a blessing, others a curse. WE all know of mistakes that have been made in promoting names. But we also know the COG has been blessed by someone 'connected'.

Loran L. did not have a big name in NC, but his wife's family did. ANY ONE who listens to Loran for more than 5 minutes can tell you he can carry the water and load the train.

One of the biggest COG mistakes was Earl P. Jr., No one could deny the man could speak, he could present a message. I heard him many times on Forward in Faith. His daddy and mine were close friends. I do not know if Bro Earl sr promoted Jr or if folks who saw potential did. But in the long run it was a mistake.

So don't hold it against a man because of his name, it is our system that allows it. Many PK's are pastoring small churches and will never 'hold office', others will become General Overseers. As my grand kids would say, ' IT IS WHAT IT IS!' Cool

Yeah OTCP, I fished with a leader in the COG whose son was caught soliciting a prostitute and lost a leading church in the COG. During the day out of the blue, my friend would say, "Now I know how Earl felt!"

We tend to put blame on Earl Sr., I do not know about Earl sr, but I know my friend NEVER pushed his son's name for higher positions, but he did me, and I disappointed him also. Sad. Sad
In my opinion, the son's failure drove my friend to an early grave. It broke his heart. Embarassed

I've never blamed Paulk Sr., his son was a grown man responsible for his own actions. If anything I feel extreme compassion for Paulk Sr.

I was not referring to you my friend, my fingers were just transferring my thoughts. Those being, I had friends at the time who did blame Sr. even to him personally. It tore him apart. We have some men, ministers, who love to put the knife in and twist it. Sad

I like you more and more each time I read your writings. You are a blessing my friend.

Whatever happened to praying for people when they fall? Love your neighbor as yourself.

I would never hold a man accountable for the sins of his son.

I have heard of Earl Sr. for decades. Never met the man nor do I remember hearing his preach. Everything I have heard of his was good.

I can imagine how heart broken Earl Sr was.

On the other hand I pastored in the Metro Atlanta for 7 years. Had a man worked with me for a while who knew Jr's family very well. He told me in the 90's that Jr. was teaching his ministers it was ok to have an extra woman when they reached a certain place with the Lord. He must have been very close to the Lord.

IMO Even worse than Jr. sins of adultery was his teaching of the Doctrine of Inclusion.

Jr's BIL is a COG minister and to my knowledge has never had a mark on his ministry. In fact his family has traveled, singing and preaching on family for many years.

for four years I pastored in Tennessee under Earl Paulk Sr, he was a good State Overseer . when Jr. lost his way and from what I heard and about the time His License was revoked Paul Sr. asked to be allowed to pick up Jr. License. And I heard that he said ( this came from a reliable source ) , " I would rather attend his funeral that to pick up Jr's license ".It certainly took its toll on the family . God Bless . T Hey, DOC

My friend, those are the same words I heard from the father of my friend when he came to fill in for his son, just after the son's fall. The father has pastored the same church many years before.

I saw a broken father in the pulpit.

Thanks for that comment Truman. There are times this Chrisian walk gets complicated. Confused

EP Sr was a wonderful man of God. Cool
