It's a wonderful thing to see our leaders' children following the Lord and becoming leaders. There are so many cases where this didn't happen and it's sad. Acts-pert Poster

Agreed - often son-in-laws of our great former leaders become great church leaders as well - but sometimes it doesn't happen. Twisted Evil

This is a great move! Bishop Matthew Propes is a phenomenal young leader in our denomination and he will only build on what Bishop Mike Stigile has done in SGA!

Post see Im not so cool with this one aprilmay2.0
Im not speaking against Matthew. I think he's great but lets seriously look at whats happened:

Matt was supposed to plant a church in iowa? or nebraska? and I sat in on a meeting that discussed a pool of church planting money from a lot of different sources to fund this church plant. I am in NO WAY suggesting he did anything wrong financially. But I am saying, where is the church.

So then Matt goes to Mizzou. Ok. cool. Then KY. Ok. cool. What happened in KY since he's there? not a whole lot. I am in NO WAY saying he did bad stuff in Mizzou or KY I'm just saying the KY appt and now the S GA appt appears to be a bit easy to get to.

Never really pastored. Never really youth pastored. About 1 year church work.

Again, Im not saying he's a person of low integrity. I think the opposite. From the few conversations we've had I think he's great. I am saying, if his name was Matthew Jones or Matthew Smith he'd probably be working 2 jobs in Iowa trying to plant a church.

But- I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Especially if the tree decides where the apple will land.

He has a great record of integrity and a passion to work with young people. His record stands by itself. Quality and dedication have no last name. He will do well in undertaking whatever task God brings him to.

It's not about integrity. It's about qualification. Just not sure the qualifications are there. Friendly Face

You said, in response to roughrider, that it's not about integrity. I beg to differ. It has everything to do with integrity. And from your post, I would say that Matthew Propes displays more integrity than you would ever hope to.

Your comments need to be deleted because they are full of speculation that is vicious and offensive. You need to display integrity by removing it yourself.

There are many church plants that have not succeeded. That does not impair the reputation of the planter. To suggest such is an offense to every man or woman who has planted without success.

Your last sentence makes such an accusation that you need to publicly apologize to Bishop Propes, who is a man of character and integrity. You have accused without facts.

This is nothing but carnal politicking to discredit a Godly man and his son prior to the General Assembly. God knows who you are and there will be a day of accountability.

Man up, be a Christian and make this right.

It really doesn't matter what you think about his qualifications. The council of South Georgia voted 100%, without coercion from ANYONE (yes I want to make this loud and clear), to accept Matthew Propes as the new YD.

If you have any question about it, call Dr Darnell and ask him. Call Dr Propes and ask him. I promise you that both of these will give you a straight and honest answer.

Yes he is and he is also a native South Georgian, born and bred in this beautiful state. We are glad he's coming home.

Almost a decade of youth director experience is now no longer enough qualification? I know Matthew Propes and have spoken for him on occasion. I've also spoken at many other camps within our denomination and have seen nothing to suggest he is any less qualified than any other of our fine youth directors. In fact, I think he is one of the MOST qualified that we have! He has a pulse on what God is doing in youth culture today and the guys who work on his boards love him and support him 100%. I recently had a conversation with a few of them. It's obvious to me that you do not, in fact, know Bishop Matthew Propes. You are planting seeds of discord, IMO, and it does not honor God in any way. If you feel he is unqualified to do the job (as many probably felt David was), how about praying for him rather than speculating? God would be much more pleased with that avenue, I'm certain!

Post Whoa!! aprilmay2.0
Cool your peanuts South Ga!! I apologia if anyone feels I've slighted Matt. I don't question his integrity. Maybe I shouldn't have named him so I apologize.

The heart of my comment was directed at how we perforce leadership and the qualifications that go with leadership and what those leaders did or didn't do to get there.

I think Tim Hill is great as a preacher but I don't think that qualifies him as an administrator. Nothing personal but it's an opinion.

I think John Childers is great with people but I'm not ready to vote him in as Sec Treasurer. Why? Not because of any integrity issues but that's not the strength I perceive him to have.

I think Mark Williams is a great preacher but I'm not ready to make him world missions director. Why? Qualifications.

So when a person like matt who isn't even 35 yet is already in a top 5 state I think it's ok to say "what did he do to get there?"

By the way if this post is out of line then any mod who sends me a pm I will obey and delete. I'm just trying to make conversation.

aprilmay got the thread off track.

No need for insinuation about the quality of his work. I can say he is a fine gentleman - with a good record.

The point is, if NBF had twice the years of experience and twice the amount of growth in his only pastorate/youth pastorate - would he have got the call to be a YD in a state - and thus the eventual opportunity to be youth dir. in Georgia?

The answer is no...because NBF was not related to anyone, and thus not connected to anyone with the power to introduce me appropriately.

These are the facts - there is no need denying them.

Here's what I want to ask everyone...
Actually - check that - I am only talking to those men already in positions of "power" that have the power to be door openers.

This man had a "door opener" built in for him (his Father).
However, are any of you looking for real talented young people to be their "door opener" even if they are not connected?

Do you actively look for those with no connections - or is your focus narrow - and you only look to be door openers for the kids that have grown up around you (such as another officials son)?

Post aprilmay here is how it happened JLarry
Since TP is on the Ex Com, he promised the S. Ga. council if they would bring his son to S. Ga. he would see that each man on the state council will go out as an AB. He got a 100% vote so S. Ga. will loose its entire council.

NOT REALLY. Just typing something you think will happen.

Actually I heard they wanted him before he went out elsewhere. They must have seen something in him.

As far as a church planter. I did that for 2 years. Never could get music so I gave up. Am I a looser?
