Degree Mill of the Week: Catalpa Bibleway University
1. CBU was located in Fayetteville, N.C. and operated by Rev. Alton Howard, who was the pastor of Catalpa Bibleway Church, a very small church.
2. Howard was also president of the Christian Accrediting Association for Theological Institutions Inc., a non-recognized agency.
3. In essence, Howard operated a degree mill accredited by an accrediting mill that he also ran.
2. No link can now be found for this place. Howard is deceased.
3. Yet, several COG preachers tout docterates from this nonentity.
Disclaimer: The purpose of this weekly listing is to reveal that obtaining “degrees” from such places is ongoing and problematic within Christian ministry. |

The A/G totally forbids this practice! It does need to be expressed and exposed. Then again it seems like being a part of leadership in the COG requires "Pulpit" recommendation! _________________ There is an objective reality out there, but we view it through the spectacles of our beliefs, attitudes, and values. ~David G. Indeed it does, Fisher. The following is quoted verbatim from A/G polity:
Our ministers shall refrain from listing, promoting, or attributing to themselves or others any degrees or titles conferred by institutions or organizations having, at the time of conferral, a formal accreditation status less than that of our appropriately corresponding Assemblies of God institutions (whether institute, regional university, or seminary).
No media, ministry, department, arm, or employee of the General Council shall list, attribute, or promote for any person, any degree or title conferred by an institution or organization having, at the time of conferral, a formal accreditation status less than that of our appropriately corresponding Assemblies of God institutions (whether institute, regional university, or seminary).
The ole timer ain't A/G, but I gotta hand it to these fellers, they "git it" when it comes to the unethical use of degrees. Kudo's to the A/G on this issue. |
