I think I've watched that before. I watched a few seconds just now. The man said, "He is given a belt." A girl screamed, "Hallelujah!" I thought, "Yep, somebody should have given him a belt."
I figured I needed to stop the video right there because I was getting all snarky about it.

Are people really this ignorant ? It confounds me that no one at any point stopped to say "is this really a good idea?". Reminds me of a story in the book of Acts: "it is the voice of a god , not a man". Didn't end well for that king. Acts Enthusiast

Is this an "illustrated message" gone bad, or is this guy (whoever he is) really crowning a king?

I guess we all could wear crowns and robes since we are a "royal priesthood".

Mat, son, you done caused the ole timer to have a good belly laugh on this Friday. I could not help but think a poor ole Homer Tomlinson in light a this debacle with ole Eddie Long. NO NOT the moral stuff, but this "King" and "Throne" stuff. Ole Eddie Long had a much nicer throne than Homer, an he even had em four fellers liftin him up an all. My goodness!

Having spent a substantial amount of time visiting predominantly Black Pentecostal churches, I can say that Long's elevation in this video, while no doubt extreme, is consistent with the way pastors in Black churches are often revered. It is something you would rarely if ever witness in White churches. Not meaning to put anyone down by saying this. It is what it is, a profound cultural difference. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

The understanding I got watching a longer version of this is that a Jewish rabbi was the one speaking and proclaiming all the "king" stuff, and it seemed to be a prophecy of sorts, saying that God was raising him up as a king among men, building a kingship in ministry. That is why he wrapped him in the Torah.

Definitely odd. Perhaps it is more of a cultural thing as QW suggested. This was also in the year following the accusations, so I can understand why the church might be excited to hear God was going to bless his ministry. Seems way over the top, though. I would definitely not feel comfortable participating in such a service.

The rabbi came under a lot of flak for this service, too.
