Buck sings "He Looked Beyond My Faults And Saw My Needs" |
doyle |
The Rambo girls were better singers than Buck but together, the three of them had an incredible harmony. When they literally "burst upon the scene," their harmony had seldom been matched. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H40zy2W21lo
At the time, I had just returned to the states from three years in the Army in Germany. A pastor in Modesto, CA invited me to come preach a youth revival. His daughter, about my age, asked if I had ever heard of the "Rambos." I hadn't, so she got out her record player and played a couple of songs by them.
She was an excellent musician herself but she exclaimed, "Doyle, have you ever heard any better harmony in your life?"
"Never" I replied. "Can we listen to some more?"
Floods of music have been published since then and I like all kinds of music; contemporary, old-school, traditional, light rock, bluegrass and country like Merle Haggard and George Jones used to sing it. But, remembering the Rambos and their unique close harmony, still brings a smile to my face and some joy to my heart. Thank you Brother Buck Rambo.
Buck, you sang it a long time but now you can tell Him in person, "I Just Came To Talk With You Lord." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNic5qpFvD8&list=PLkOxSm5gAgbEcNeyrE8htegnl2b5zd6IC

That reminds me of when I was dating my husband, and he asked me if I had heard of the Rambos. I had not, though local singers often covered their songs. In retrospect, I'm amazed he didn't break up with me right then and there, but he merely put on the album and I listened to "When Payday Comes." |

Bonnie: Now that's funny |
doyle |
What a funny goof. In sharing that I liked Merle Haggard, Bonnie noted that instead of writing "Merle Haggard," I had instead written "Earl Haggard."
Come on! Perfection is hard. At least I got the "e, r, and l" correct. As country boys say, "Close only counts when playing horseshoes." The way that one went, I looked again to be sure I had not written "George Johns" instead of "George Jones."
Thanks Bonnie for the kind heads-up. I made the change .

You shore at was a "goof," Doyle?
Didn't Dottie Rambo in her later years attend the Cathedral of the Paulk Brothers, pastored by Archbishop Earl Pearly Paulk, Jr.? I'm pretty shore she did. I thought ats why you wrote Earl Haggard, kind of a little play on words an all. |

OTCP: That is even funnier |
doyle |
I laughed out loud on that one. It is far funnier than what I posted. Indeed, I think Dottie did at times attend Earl Paul Jr's. church. A lot of people in this area did.
