Ever had Somebody say, "I Only Live by What's Written in Red" |
Old Time Country Preacher |
First, the ole timer don't care much fer red letter editions a the good Book. If folk used em fer what they are--just to show what Jesus spoke in the Gospels, Acts & Revelation--it would be one thing. BUT, over the years, so many folk has growed up thinkin that whats wrote in red is "more important" or "carrys more weight" than em words in black. When folk understand inspiration, they learn "Every word of God," meanin ever word in the good Book is true.
Now, case in point, this woman who was livin in sin, when I showed her in Paul's writins that what she was doin was prohibited in the good Book, she said "Oh, I only live by what's written in red." WHAT??? |

Yes, lesbo pastors and others trying to justify sin, pretty much ignoring that Christ confirmed the rest of scripture. Anytime someone starts in with that, I hear "blah, blah, blah...." sorta like the teacher on Charlie Brown |

I haven't met anyone who outright said they only live by what's written in red, but I have met several who obviously give much greater weight to the red words of Jesus.
It has never made any sense to me. If Jesus is the Word made flesh, then all of the words should be viewed with the same weight as the red words.
I remember a "would you rather" question I was asked once. Would you rather know the entire Bible by heart, or spend a week with Jesus? I was young at the time and was mystified as everyone answered that they'd rather spend a week with Jesus. I thought, if you knew the entire Bible by heart, you could spend every minute of your life with Him. |

First, I agree with what Paul wrote to Timothy and what OTCP and Dave have said, it is all the inspired Word of God and the according to John 1 the Word is God and the Word became flesh and He dwelt among us. To "know" the Word is to "know" Jesus!
I would simply add to the conversation, that I love the "words" spoken by Jesus. I don't know that I personally give them "more weight" but I do pause and take my time with them. They are precious and as Peter said, where would I go? Thou alone has the words of life!
I would also admit that when I have conflict understanding what seem to be differences in Jesus words and Paul's words for instance, then as I work out my own salvation with fear and trembling, I lean towards Jesus' words and heart on matters. No indictment on you if you disagree just an observation in my own walk with Him. _________________ Proverbs 3:5-6; John 13:34-35; Acts 1:8 |
