Prediction: Doubling Down on the Blood Moons

How many high profile ministers do you think will apologize or say "I missed it" about the blood moons?

I believe they are SINCERE men. They simply have a bent toward trying, trying, trying to use scripture (or in this case, a form of almost-astrology) to understand and see the end.

But just as the 88 reasons in 1988 became the 89 reasons in 1989, so, too, I think will many either just ignore it and move on...or will double down and say that something hidden DID happen...or something WILL happen, etc.

What say ye?

Aaron, when I saw the video of Hugh Ross on John Hagee's show where a passionate John Hagee pointed his finger at the calm and reasonable Ross, and declared, "You're wrong!!" I realized something. I realized that John Hagee is not intentionally trying to dupe people; he actually believes this stuff. If his eyes could not be opened by the careful logic presented to him at that time, I don't think they will be opened now unless he humbles himself. From his past behavior that looks highly unlikely. (But I do believe in miracles.)
So, I'm putting my money on doubling down, so to speak.

MHistorian Robert Mapes Anderson observed that the millennial expectation that "Jesus is coming soon" was the primary belief of early Pentecostalism. As a lover of history, I was absolutely fascinated when in Bible college I began to study the history of our movement. One thing that can definitely rightly be said about us is that there has always been a very strongly apocalyptic impulse among us.

During World War I, articles in Pentecostal periodicals often flatly asserted that the war was surely the beginnings of Armageddon, and that no Christian should have anything to do with it. (Absolute pacifism was also a strongly held belief among many Pentecostals until World War II). During virtually every decade of Pentecostalism, one can find abundant examples of apocalyptic speculation in light of current events. This has also been pejoratively called "newspaper exegesis."

Wisdom, experience and a plain reading of Scripture would indicate that all such speculation is absolutely fruitless and a real distraction from the task before us. This gospel of the kingdom must be preached for a witness into all people groups, and then the end shall come.

When a minister goes out on the limb with this sort of proclamation and it turns out to be false, it damages all of their other messages. Credibility goes right out the door unless they apologize and admit they were wrong. Jim Bakker wrote the book "I Was Wrong." That is one way to do it!

Oh, I don't think he will realized he has "missed" anything. I don't think he gave a very specific time frame. I think he will see the next major Mid East upheaval as confirmation of the blood moons sign.
Or, as famousflavius mentioned in another thread, he will assume something has happened that we're not yet aware of.

As soon as you pointed it out to me, I made the connection to "word". I think I'll be able to avoid that mistake again.

Afterward, perhaps I'll see if there's a good trick for remembering that it's "afterword".

I just hope we don't get so cynical and critical of signs and false prophets that we miss the true signs and fail to hear the true prophet. I am always concerned about how quick we are to ridicule and make fun of some people and some events. But, I am not in favor or supportive of these guys who make money off of peoples ignorance of God's Word.
