Confession time. How many of you have used the term "Ole Slewfoot" to get people riled up about the devil? Golf Cart Mafia Underboss

I have to admit to hearing my dad say that at times growing up, but in my short stay or an acting preacher, I must say, I don't think I ever used that phrase, it was hard enough to follow my wild outlines.

Now I mighta used that if I could have had some 'teleprompters' to keep me on course. Smile

The first time I heard about that may have been when I heard a teaching against doing such things based on Jude 9.

Exactly. I must be older than most people here or they're afraid to admit it. Ha.

I made a duplicate entry. But since I did, my mama's favorite song was: "That old Gospel Ship".
The old saints would request it every service I think. Of course she didn't sing it every service, but very often.

Kyle Taylor told me Mama's version was the best!.... Cool

I don't know that I've ever heard that term used in a sermon or teaching. I have been in Pentecostal churches basically all my life. I am close to 50, and am a fourth generation Pentecostal. Not saying no one has ever used it, just that I have never heard it used by a preacher. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

I have used that text before to discourage people from being flippant about making such jibes. And yes, I've heard the term "slewfoot" used on numerous occasions. Shocked

At one time I had the idea in my head that it was a vague reference to the devil. But definitions I have read don't say anything like that.
And I don't recall hearing it in a sermon, at least not those in the church I attended.
